Qualifications

  • Completion of accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Ontario.
  • 2 years of experience working as a Registered Nurse is preferred.
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all aspects of the donor experience at the donor centre.
  • Provide donors with information, instruction, and advice.
  • Assist in the collection of plasma including performing venepuncture.
  • Ensure completeness of information in multiple systems.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and best practice standards.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Part Time Plasma Nurse to join our dynamic Plasma Operations team in Vaughan, ON.

The Plasma Operations team is responsible for increasing the amount of plasma collected in Canada for Canadian patients, some of whom may require medications made from plasma for the rest of their lives, with no other treatment options available.

In this role, you will support the local Vaughan team in advancing our strategy to secure a domestic supply of plasma for immune globulin, and act as an ambassador of the plasma donation program to promote and contribute to a collaborative and donor-centric work environment.

  • Leveraging your ability to communicate effectively with donors, you will participate in all aspects of the donor experience at the donor centre, including welcoming donors, completing confidential eligibility screening, and supporting the collection of plasma during the donation process. Through this work, you will promote a positive donor experience.
  • Utilizing your strong people skills, you will provide donors with information, instruction, and advice on plasma donation and other ways to contribute to Canada’s Lifeline.
  • With your excellent interpersonal skills, you will work in a diverse team environment assisting in the collection of plasma, including performing venepuncture according to established standards and complete multiple processes within the Centre that require strong communication.
  • Your excellent attention to detail will be utilized in ensuring completeness of information in multiple systems and processes. This includes screening and collection, along with the storage of products, preparation of samples for testing, and packaging products for shipment.
  • Drawing on your knowledge or experience in continuous improvement, you will contribute to the framework of continuous improvement and implementation of best practice standards with the team.
Desired education and skills
  • Completion of accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province is required.
  • 2 years of experience working as a Registered Nurse is considered an asset as is a certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Previous experience as a preceptor or with coaching others is an asset.
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs.
  • A second language is considered an asset to support a positive donor experience.
