Job description
Registered Nurse (RN) OR/ /RR/Day Surgery/CSR

Seeking full‑time, permanent Registered Nurses to provide perioperative care for a diverse surgical population across services including General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Gynaecology, Obstetrics, and Dental Surgery. The role requires acute care experience, operating room proficiency, and commitment to delivering patient‑centered care guided by the ORNAC Standards.

Compensation & Benefits

Recruitment bonuses: $5,000 on start date, $5,000 at 18 months, $10,000 at 30 months. Additional premiums: $9,000 annual frontline allowance and a $4,500 monthly retention bonus. Tier One allowance of $10 per hour premium is available for eligible employees. Benefits include competitive salary, medical and dental coverage, defined benefit pension plan, relocation privileges, and career advancement opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high‑quality perioperative nursing care to surgical patients, addressing physiological, psychological, socio‑cultural, and spiritual needs.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to plan, execute, and evaluate patient care throughout the perioperative experience.
  • Apply critical thinking and evidence‑based practices in line with ORNAC Standards and Position Statements.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date clinical knowledge across all surgical specialties offered by the department.
  • Complete and maintain required certifications, including CPR, WHMIS, PALS, ACLS, EKG interpretation, and fit testing within 12 months of hire.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Diploma in Nursing (or equivalent) and a minimum of two years of recent acute care experience.
  • One year of recent experience within an operating room setting.
  • Eligibility to register with Canadian Association of Nurse and Nurse Practitioners (CANNN).
  • Current CPR certification and annual recertification.
  • Highly Sensitive Position: satisfactory Criminal Record Check and clear Vulnerable Sector Check required.
  • Ability to communicate in Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, English, and/or French is an asset.
  • Experience working in a northern cross‑cultural environment and knowledge of Inuit communities and culture is an asset.
Preferred (but not required) Certifications
  • WHMIS, PALS, ACLS, Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention, Back Injury Prevention Program, EKG interpretation, Fit testing.
Locations Eligible for Tier One Premium
  • Naujaat, Cambridge Bay, Kugaaruk, Taloyoak, Arctic Bay, Clyde River, Sanirajak, Iqaluit, Grise Fiord, Kimmirut, Qikiqtarjuaq, and Resolute Bay.
