Maples Surgical Centre, a division of Clearpoint Health Network, is recruiting for an experienced Registered Nurse - OR in our Casual Pool.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with all members of the healthcare team.
  2. Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substances regulations.
  3. Document patient care appropriately in the medical record.
  4. Participate cooperatively and communicate effectively with team members.
  5. Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
  6. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and participating in professional societies.
  7. Participate in educational programs as required.
  8. Assist with the orientation and support for new staff to the facility.
  9. Perform related duties as assigned by the leader.
  10. Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. RN with current Certificate of Registration issued by the College of Nurses of Manitoba.
  2. Operating Room certification from an accredited program – Certificate required.
  3. Current BCLS certification is required.
  4. Proven focus to provide excellent patient care in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner.
  5. Experience collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of care providers, with emphasis on assessment, education, prevention, maintenance, and restoration of patient health.

Qualifications:

  1. 2-4 years' recent experience in an acute care setting in the operating room / ambulatory care environment, including assisting, scrubbing / circulating in the operating room, and ambulatory services.
  2. Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) perioperative nursing certification preferred. Completion of a recognized operating room course or a combination of education and experience.
  3. Ability to work independently within the surgical / ambulatory services environment to maintain patient flow.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of surgical / ambulatory procedures (including setup) and the continuum of care for the surgical patient, including pre-intra-post operative experience.
  5. Capable of setting up and caring for minor and major surgical procedures and anticipating the needs of patients and physicians.
  6. Proven motivation to pursue educational goals.
  7. Ability to collaborate with a highly skilled interdisciplinary team.
  8. Implementing plan of care including independent and interdependent nursing functions.
  9. Assessing and understanding the unique needs of surgical patients.
  10. Strong proficiency and willingness to work at the full scope of practice (as outlined by CRNM).

Physical Requirements:

  1. The work environment is physically demanding and may require different levels of physical exertion, such as lifting, bending, and transferring patients.
  2. At times, RNs may work in challenging and stressful circumstances, such as in an emergency. Ability to respond appropriately to changing patient conditions.
  3. During the course of their work, RNs may be exposed to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, chemicals, and other safety hazards. Adherence to IP&C standards is required.
