Job summary

Providence Health Care is hiring Operating Room Registered Nurses for St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, BC. The role focuses on fast-paced surgical care with a dedicated interdisciplinary team and a rotating schedule. Eligible candidates may receive a one-time recruitment incentive up to $15,000, subject to FTE and funding.

You will assess patients, develop care plans, teach families, and collaborate with surgeons and anesthesiologists to ensure safe, high-quality care.

Qualifications

  • Must be a registered nurse in Canada in good standing and eligible for registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
  • Completion of a post graduate operating room course or two years’ recent operating room experience
  • Demonstrated CPR proficiency; strong teamwork, decision-making and conflict resolution; teaching aptitude and leadership

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments and develop care plans for the operating room population
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to implement and evaluate nursing care
  • Educate patients and families as part of care plans
  • Refer to resources as needed and support colleagues within PHC team
  • Maintain standards per PHC mission and values and contribute to patient safety

We are hiring Operating Room Registered Nurses at St. Paul's Hospital, who thrive in a fast-paced environment and play a critical role in life-changing surgical care!

As a Staff Nurs e , you'll be at the forefront of patient care, working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to ensure patients/residents receive comprehensive support.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assess patients' physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
  • Incorporate teaching into care plans to educate patients and families.
  • Make referrals to resources as needed.
  • Support fellow healthcare professionals.

Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratio

Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPR) set the minimum number of nurses required to safely care for patients on a given unit. Developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses' Union (BCNU), and health organizations across British Columbia, mNPR provides a consistent and transparent approach to staffing that supports safe nursing practice and high-quality patient care. What You Bring

Education:

  • You must be a registered nurse in Canada in good standing and be eligible for registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)

Your Day to Day:

  • Conduct thorough patient/resident assessments through chart reviews, observations, interviews, and collaboration with peers.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans based on evidence-based practices, prioritizing patient/resident needs.
  • Adhere to established policies, procedures, and PHC standards while providing high-quality nursing care.
  • Monitor patient/resident progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust care plans as needed for optimal results.
  • Maintain accurate records of assessments, care plans, patient/resident status, and discharge plans using manual and computerized systems.
  • Identify and address patient/resident and family learning needs, providing education and referrals as necessary.
  • Provide direction to staff, promote teamwork, and share clinical knowledge to enhance patient care.
  • Support nursing research initiatives and contribute to the improvement of patient/resident care policies and procedures.
  • Advocate for patients/residents' rights and dignity, facilitate discharge plans, and collaborate with families and community resources.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the healthcare team.
