Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Health Services, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing professional registered nursing services for patients, including those with complex and unpredictable health needs. These services include independent nursing services, administration of prescribed medical treatments, a leadership role within the healthcare team, and facilitation of coordination of patient care and discharge. The RN demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the region/facility/unit.

Experience
  • Previous experience in Mental Health and/or Acute Inpatient Mental Health would be an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate of an approved Registered Psychiatric Nursing, or Registered Nursing education program required.
  • Successful completion of a relevant post‑basic program may be required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Active registration with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) or the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
  • Active participation in professional associations (e.g., Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba) preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training in accordance with Employer policy.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of:
    • College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses/Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics; Scope of practice as documented in the Registered Psychiatric/Registered Nurses Act.
    • Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
    • Nursing care knowledge related to the clinical area.
    • Relevant legislated acts (PHIA, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, WHMIS, Principles of Routine Practices).
    • Roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members.
    • Principles of delegation.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Preference for applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledgeable in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking/problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage care for individual patients or groups.
  • Ability to respond to simultaneous demands.
