CAMH is seeking a full-time contract(12 months) Registered Nurse (RN) reporting to the Research Manager of the Institute of Mental Health Policy Research (IMHPR) and the Manager Research and Knowledge Mobilization Shkaabe Makwa at CAMH.

The Institute for Mental Health Policy Research (IMHPR) is home to leading scientific experts dedicated to informing policy and practice on mental illness and substance use disorders. IMHPR scientists conduct collaborative research on communities populations health systems and global health and develop and evaluate prevention and intervention initiatives to reduce mental health and substance use challenges. IMHPR is committed to equity informed by the social determinants of health.

Shkaabe Makwa at CAMH is the first Indigenous-led hospital-based Centre in Canada established to improve the health and wellbeing of First Nations Inuit and Métis across Ontario by advancing wholistic models of mental health and wellness care that are rooted in traditional healing practices. We deliver care co-design research and mobilize knowledge and tools to transform health systems. We action community-identified solutions to foster health justice.

The RN will function as part of the research team and will work primarily on a culturally-adapted version of a virtual alcohol withdrawal management intervention for First Nations Inuit and Métis. The RN will be required to conduct clinical research assessments with cultural sensitivity and monitor participants during their withdrawal. Other clinical research responsibilities include data collection and documentation screening and recruitment liaising with research teams clinical teams and community agencies to promote recruitment quality assurance activities and ongoing communication with other research team members. The RN may also provide education and clinical support to students / trainees and be involved on other research projects within the department. The successful candidate will be able to work independently as well as part of multi-site project teams. The standard workday for this position is 7.5 hours. However flexibility is required as shifts may vary based on operational needs. This role may include occasional weekend work. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements.

This position is primarily located at 100 Stokes Street and 60 White Squirrel Way.

Minimum Requirements

The successful applicant must be registered in good standing as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. Experience working with clients with mental health concerns and addictions is required. Participation in the Canadian Indigenous Nurses Association is considered an asset. Experience with alcohol withdrawal management is an asset. Preference will be given to First Nations Inuit or Métis candidates with demonstrated community experience. Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy and current experience in settings requiring frequent administration of venipuncture procedures is required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess Canadian Nurses Association certification in Psychiatric / Mental Health Nursing. Experience in a research environment including familiarity with research participant recruitment data collection and clinical research protocols is an asset. Knowledge of or demonstrated readiness to appropriately implement and maintain clinical research protocols and all applicable regulatory requirements is required as well as maintaining appropriate research training as part of the should possess the ability for self-directed learning / working and the ability to work concurrently on multiple projects as part of an interdisciplinary team. Excellent documentation practices are literacy (competencies in Outlook and Microsoft Word) is required. Experience with REDCap is an asset. Candidates are expected to be motivated reliable detail-oriented and well organized. Strong interpersonal skills good judgment and tact are required. The ability to assist colleagues while maintaining a cooperative collaborative working environment is required. Bilingualism (French / English) and / or the ability to speak an Indigenous language is considered an asset.
