Job summary

St. Joe's in Hamilton is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the ACTT 2 team. The RN will collaborate with a multidisciplinary group to deliver treatment, rehabilitation and crisis intervention for individuals with serious mental illness in the community.

The role requires current Ontario RN registration, a BScN, and experience in community mental health settings. Some on-call hours and shift work are expected, with a strong emphasis on recovery and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
• BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing preferred.
• Experience with Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) model.
• 4–5 years of experience with individuals with serious and persistent mental illness in community settings.
• Substance abuse/Addictions counseling experience is an asset.
• Forensic/dual diagnosis or developmental delay experience is an asset.
• Strong skills in psychosocial rehabilitation, crisis assessment, and treatment planning.
• Knowledge of psychotropic medications, side effects, and therapeutic effects.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability; good attendance and driving license is a plus.

The program operates seven days per week and some on-call hours and shift work will be required.**Qualifications:** • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required • BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing (CPMHN(c)) preferred. • Knowledge of the Assertive Community Treatment Team Model • A minimum of 4-5 years experience with individuals with serious and persistent mental illness, both inpatient and outpatient in the community, preferred • Specialty in substance abuse and/or addictions counseling will be an asset • Experience in forensic/dual diagnosed/developmental delay will be an asset • Demonstrated knowledge, skill and experience in: psychosocial rehabilitation; conducting mental status examinations; assessing, managing and evaluating crisis situations; conducting physical assessments; developing treatment plans for clients living in the community, and working with individuals with concurrent disorders • Practice according to a recovery framework • Knowledge of the signs and symptoms, intervention strategies and treatment modalities of a variety of psychiatric disorders • Knowledge of current psychotropic medications, including side effects and therapeutic effects • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective professional and therapeutic relationships • Knowledge of Mental Health Reform, the Mental Health Act, and other appropriate legislation • Demonstrated leadership and teaching skills • Demonstrated commitment to professional development • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in a team • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills • Demonstrated ability to be flexible in work assignments and work effectively under pressure • Demonstrated computer skills • Venipuncture skills and experience is an asset • Good attendance and work record are essential • Valid driver’s license, adequate insurance and use of a vehicle
