Registered Nurse, Diabetes Centre - 1 position

Full Time
Salary Range: $40.24 – $57.68 per hour

St. Joseph’s Health Care is willing to consider applicants who are eligible for the Community Commitment Program for Nurses (CCPN). This program provides $25,000 in grant funding to eligible RPNs/RNs/ Nurse Practitioners in exchange for a two‑year full‑time commitment. We are looking for a patient‑centered, energetic team player who is an effective communicator. An ideal candidate will have a strong patient focus, experience in diabetes education and management, and exceptional communication skills. You will see patients in a multi‑disciplinary team environment, in person and virtually. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of patients living with diabetes by providing comprehensive education, support, and guidance. You will work closely to provide optimum, individualized care in both group and one‑on‑one appointments to support individuals living with diabetes. You will have the opportunity to work with a large team of nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, physicians, administrative staff and others at a center recognized as a regional leader in diabetes care, providing care to patients with type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes.

Essential Qualifications
  • Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) with the Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification Board
  • Valid CPR certificate
  • Ability to successfully complete the insulin adjustment certification (750 hours worked or within one year of employment)
  • Knowledge of a safety culture in a health‑care setting in compliance with OHSA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current evidence‑based practice related to diabetes, including pathophysiology, health monitoring, nutritional strategies, complication prevention and self‑care management
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and experience in developing diabetic teaching materials and educating patients and families/caregivers
  • Previous experience in health promotion and preventative medicine
  • Effective communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Expertise in critical thinking and clinical problem‑solving skills
  • Self‑directed, strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team
  • Experience with insulin pump education
  • Experience in public speaking and preparation of educational material
  • Computer skills, particularly with Outlook, computerized patient information systems, Microsoft Office and PowerPoint
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French is considered an asset
Teaching and Research
  • St. Joseph’s Health Care London, through its affiliation with Western University and Fanshawe College, is a leading research and teaching hospital. Staff are expected to engage in role‑related teaching and research activities in addition to clinical duties.
Immunization Requirements
  • Proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID‑19 and influenza
  • Documentation of the Tuberculosis skin test
