Job summary

Providence Manor, part of Providence Care, Kingston, requires an RN to coordinate resident-centered care on assigned Home Areas. The RN will lead the nursing team, act as a resource, and ensure care plans reflect the Residents' Bill of Rights in a supportive, quality-driven environment.

Requirements include Ontario RN licensure, RN diploma or BScN, CPR/First-Aid, and dementia/palliative care experience. Training in Gentle Persuasive Approach is a plus; long-term care experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Unrestricted registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • RN diploma; BScN.
  • CPR and First-Aid certification required.
  • Certification in gerontological nursing preferred, Gentle Persuasive Approach training included.
  • Prior work in dementia care and palliative care preferred.
  • Experience in a Long-term care Home.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the work of Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) and reports performance concerns to the Director of Care.
  • Acts as a resource to registered and unregistered staff in care delivery.
  • Provides leadership in promoting resident-centered care.
  • Promotes Residents' Bill of Rights and advocates for residents.
  • Communicates with residents, families, POAs and the inter-professional care team.
  • Supports family involvement in care planning.
  • Works with the team to develop and revise resident care plans.
  • Ensures daily personal needs are met with dignity and respect.
  • Provides frontline clinical nursing expertise on assigned Resident Home Areas.

The Registered Nurse (RN) works under the direction of the Director of Care (DOC) to co-ordinate the delivery of quality, resident-centered care on assigned Resident Home Areas. The RN is a clinical nursing expert, nursing team member and educator for residents and members of the nursing care team. The RN supports the efficient operation of the Home through continuous quality improvement. Duties are fulfilled in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values of Providence Care Centre and the professional requirements and practice standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario and the Long-Term Care Act.

Skills And Qualifications Required
  • Unrestricted registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum educational requirement is an RN diploma; BScN.
  • Current CPR and First-Aid certification required
  • Certification in gerontological nursing preferred, as is training in Gentle Persuasive Approach and similar programs.
  • Prior work experience and training in dementia care and palliative care preferred
  • Prior work or practicum experience in a Long-term care Home.

  • Provides front-line clinical nursing expertise in all aspects of care delivery on the assigned Resident Home Areas.
