Job summary

A healthcare organization in Nanaimo is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide direct nursing care to patients in the hospital or community. The ideal candidate will have experience in acute medical/surgical nursing and be registered with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential. Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reports to the Manager or designate. Plans and provides direct nursing care to patients/residents in the hospital or in the community in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and the BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.

Qualifications

Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Recent experience in acute medical/surgical nursing, and completion of a basic arrhythmia interpretation course, or an equivalent combination of education, skills and training.

Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize assigned workload and set priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability in arrhythmia interpretation as evidenced by successful completion of a VIHA Basic Arrhythmia course within the past year, or a mark of 75% on the VIHA ECG Challenge Exam.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts, including co-workers, physicians, community agency representatives, patients, residents and families.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
