Your Opportunity

A Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family care in pre-admission clinic and preop/day surgical unit. Responsible for pre and post surgical patients received from the operating. Management of up to 40-45 surgical patients on a daily basis. Pre-admission patients seen in clinic for preop assessment and preparation for planned surgical procedures.

Description

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications

Active registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Certification/current experience with IV initiation & phlebotomy. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and priority setting skills required. Demonstrated excellent assessment, leadership, and patient care. Able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Proven reliability/dependability required. Current acute care surgical nursing with a minimum 2 years’ experience is required. Ability to deal with patients who are acutely ill in an unpredictable and stressful environment. Ability to work in a physically demanding environment: Considerable standing/walking; lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients; considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching (continuously for 5.5 - 7 hours per shift). Walking (continuously for 5.5 - 7 hours per shifts) and lifting up to fifty pounds. Pushing beds/stretchers multiple times for prolonged distance between units. Able to work staggered shifts. Basic computer skills are necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred. ACLS an asset. Recent charge nurse experience. Advanced knowledge of regional/neuraxial/multimodal anesthesia. Current clinical experience in a fast-paced, high turnover preoperative/day surgery unit is an asset.
