A regional health authority in Yukon is seeking a Registered Midwife to provide comprehensive maternal and neonatal health care. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery and current registration with a Canadian authority. Responsibilities include prenatal and postpartum care, collaborating within a multidisciplinary team, and maintaining culturally safe practices. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a supportive community in Yukon.
The Yukon Midwifery Program is a collaborative group practice of autonomous Registered Midwives (RMs) who will work as employees at the Department of Health and Social Services under the Integrated Health Services branch. Midwifery services are delivered through the Yukon Midwifery Program Clinic at 9010 Quartz Road, at the Whitehorse General Hospital, and in a range of community settings, including clients’ homes. Yukon Registered Midwives (RMs) work closely with physicians, nurses, medical office assistants, counsellors, and other health and social professionals. RMs are responsible for maintaining a practice environment that is inclusive, non-discriminatory, and physically, psychologically, and culturally safe.
Reporting to the Clinical Manager of Midwifery, RMs provide prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum and neonatal health care to individuals and their babies. They provide comprehensive, primary health care including health assessments, diagnoses, interventions, and follow-up care. A RM may be the first point of entry to maternity services and are fully responsible for the clinical decision making and the management of care within their scope of practice. They ensure consistent and quality culturally safe, relationship-based midwifery care that contributes to the achievement of optimal maternal and child health outcomes for pregnant Yukoners in their care.
