Job summary

A northern Canadian health authority is hiring a Registered Midwife in Fort Smith. The ideal candidate will provide specialized prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal care. Applicants must hold a Baccalaureate degree in Midwifery and have at least two years of experience. A valid driver's license and certification in First Aid and CPR are required. Job Information

Fort Smith is a cozy community located in the southern Northwest Territories (NWT). Here you get to watch the Pelican's at the Slave River Rapids or access Canada's biggest national park, Wood Buffalo National Park and see the Salt Plains, a World Heritage Site. As the Registered Midwife, you will work as an autonomous primary care practitioner with hospital privileges who provides residents with specialized prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum and neonatal health care including health assessment, diagnosis, intervention and follow up care in accordance with the NWT Midwifery Profession Act and midwifery regulatory framework. You will provide culturally safe, relationship-based midwifery services that contribute to the achievement of optimal maternal / child health outcomes in the NWT.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

A Baccalaureate degree in Midwifery (Health Sciences) or assessed through a Prior Learning and Experience Assessment (PLEA) program within a Canadian province, with a minimum of two (2) years' experience in delivering midwifery care as a primary care provider.

Additional Requirements:

  • A valid driver's license
  • Standard First Aid, CPR (level C)
  • Must be eligible for professional licensing in accordance with the Midwifery Profession Act and must be credentialed and eligible for privileges in accordance with the Medical and Professional Staff Bylaws
