Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) creates a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that fosters children's overall well-being. Guided by How Does Learning Happen? (HDLH), the RECE plans and implements age-appropriate, play-based programs that support children's spiritual, social, physical, emotional, and developmental growth.
Responsibilities include designing responsive learning experiences, co-constructing activities that encourage exploration and curiosity, and building strong relationships with children, families, and colleagues. The RECE ensures a safe and inclusive environment while leading and mentoring Early Childhood Assistants and supporting continuous quality improvement in alignment with HDLH principles.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Incumbent will perform all , some or similar range of duties as below :
Child Development and Care:
Adhere to all requirements of an RECE as determined by The College of Early Childhood Educators and the CCEYA
Use a variety of observation and documentation techniques.
Facilitate cognitive, language, social, emotional, creative, and physical development of children and acceptance of diversity .
Develop, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate program .
Research the provincial Curriculum framework.
Support the holistic development of all children.
Build meaningful relationships with the children.
Identify and expand upon learning opportunities (teachable moments).
Identify and support child’s individual learning and development .
Identify and support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Meet health, welfare and safety needs.
Administer medication and/or procedures . Accommodate for children’s allergies.
Implement preventative health and safety measures .
Develop and implement safe travelling and off-site practices while provid ing adequate supervision during these times .
Provide first-aid / CPR. Protect children from physical and emotional harm .
Implement emergency and evacuation plan .
Review safety related issues .
Follow safe toileting and diapering procedures.
Identify and report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect .
Promote a healthy lifestyle and a ctively supervise children. Promote healthy eating and proper food serving techniques .
Meet nutritional needs.
Accommodate for special nutritional requirements. Model and teach proper table manners.
Establish with colleagues an environment to foster positive behaviour in the program .
Guide and observe children. Implement positive behaviour guidance .
Facilitate appropriate language , conflict resolution, empathy, problem-solving and coping skills .
Use and promote active listening skills .
Adhere to all requirements of an RECE as determined by The College of Early Childhood Educators, CCEYA Act and Local Public Health requirements.
Equipment & Facilities:
Develop and maintain a safe environment.
Check for physical hazards and report hazards to the Supervisor, Assistant
Maintain and implement safety standards and protocols .
Use developmentally appropriate equipment .
Adapt programming and equipment to unique settings and situations.
Operate and maintain facilities.
Maintain equipment, materials and furnishings.
Maintain indoor and outdoor physical environment.
Monitor cleanliness and sanitation of all areas used by children as per policy and guidelines.
Family and Community Relations :
Form collaborative partnerships with families.
Build and maintain meaningful relationships with families.
Orient families to the program .
Communicate and collaborate with families.
Provide family resources.
Use Community resources.
Access and engage community resources, facilities and services .
Raise awareness of community events.
A dvocate for children and families .
Make connections between families and resources and respect the rights of the child.
Provide an inclusive environment.
Collaborate with parents to identify strengths, needs and interests of the child , d evelop and implement inclusion plans with other professionals and parents.
Record Keeping
Maintain records for legislation and regulations and all other required records ( daily and monthly attendance , accidents, incidents and occurrences , cleaning procedures , medical procedures and the administration of medication , children’s records , facility maintenance and safety checks ) .
Attendance at parent meetings, staff meetings and other job-related activities will be part and parcel of this job description and the agreed salary.
Fulfill all other related duties as assigned .
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT :
Governance Boards and Councils: None.
Internal: Staff members, volunteers, children in the program.
External: Parents and guardians of the children , Regulatory agencies , Ministry of Education and Public Health
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
• Reports directly to Childcare Center Supervisor .
• Direct reports: none.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
Minor level of material responsibilities (proper use and safekeeping of toys, equipment, etc.) .
Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines.
Does not process any financial transactions / no budget responsibilities.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The performance of the job requires frequently lifting/moving equipment and children, room set-up, moderate amount of teaching, leading etc.
Occasional work on the tablet/iPad.
Possibility of intervening in physical confrontations
C leaning the facility and putting up wall displays.
The incumbent is required to lift up to 3 0 pounds with no assistance from others .
Shifts and outside work including monthly staff meetings after hours.
Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

The incumbent may have little to no travel required .

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
ECE Diploma
Registered with the College of ECE in Good Standing
Knows and complies with the Child Care and Early Years Act and How Does Learning Happen
18 years of age or older
Excellent Oral & written communication skills required to work with children, parents and other staff
Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening completed
Updated Medical completed
Standard First Aid & Level C CPR
Complete all on-line Salvation Army courses
Food Handlers Certificate an asset
Valid Driver’s License and a ccess to a vehicle an asset (travel to multiple locations)
Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
A minimum of one year of related experience.
K nowledge and experience in supervising and implementing programs and completing evaluations related to programming.
Skills and Capabilities
Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Review of Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector is required within 6 months of date of issue.
Clearance through internal Salvation Army child abuse registry.
The Salvation Army Armatus abuse training and Health and Safety training must be completed immediately upon hiring.
Demonstrates an active interest and attitude suitable for working with large groups of children.
Ensure all Centre policies are read upon hiring and reviewed whenever changed or annually thereafter.
Ability to put children at ease and create a warm and friendly environment in which a child can develop fully.
Ability to communicate in a kind, peaceful manner.
Ability to stay calm and patient.
Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
Ability to conduct self professionally and follow policies and procedures and u se code of ethics to guide practice.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $23.28 to $29.10 with a maximum of $34.92.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
