Job summary

A community support organization in Mississauga is looking for a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) to foster a nurturing learning environment. The ideal candidate will design engaging programs, support children's development, and lead a team of Early Childhood Assistants. This role requires an ECE Diploma and registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators. Competitive hourly compensation of $23.28 to $29.10, with a maximum of $34.92 based on experience.

Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) creates a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that fosters children's overall well‑being. Guided by How Does Learning Happen? (HDLH), the RECE plans and implements age‑appropriate, play‑based programs that support children's spiritual, social, physical, emotional, and developmental growth.

Responsibilities
  • Design responsive learning experiences, co‑construct activities that encourage exploration and curiosity, and build strong relationships with children, families and colleagues.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive environment while leading and mentoring Early Childhood Assistants.
  • Support continuous quality improvement in alignment with HDLH principles.
  • Plan, implement, evaluate, and adapt age‑appropriate programs.
  • Facilitate cognitive, language, social, emotional, creative, and physical development of children.
  • Use a variety of observation and documentation techniques.
  • Lead health and safety duties: administer medication, implement preventative health measures, provide first‑aid/CPR, maintain safety protocols, and manage emergency and evacuation plans.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all areas used by children.
  • Build meaningful relationships with families, communicate program information, and advocate for children and families.
  • Develop and maintain positive behaviour guidance strategies.
  • Adhere to all requirements of the College of Early Childhood Educators, CCEYA Act, and local public health requirements.
  • Record keeping: maintain attendance, accident, incident, cleaning, medical, and facility maintenance records.
  • Collaborate with parents to identify strengths, needs, and interests of the child and develop inclusion plans.
  • Support and use community resources and engage with community events.
Child Development and Care
  • Adhere to all requirements of an RECE as determined by the College of Early Childhood Educators and CCEYA.
  • Use a variety of observation and documentation techniques.
  • Facilitate cognitive, language, social, emotional, creative and physical development of children and accept diversity.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate age‑appropriate program.
  • Research the provincial curriculum framework.
  • Support the holistic development of all children.
Equipment & Facilities
  • Develop and maintain a safe environment and use developmentally appropriate equipment.
  • Check for physical hazards and report hazards to the supervisor.
  • Maintain, operate and safeguard facility, materials and furnishings.
  • Monitor cleanliness and sanitation of all areas used by children.
Family and Community Relations
  • Form collaborative partnerships with families.
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with families.
  • Orient families to the program and provide family resources.
  • Use community resources and engage with community events.
  • Advocate for children and families.
  • Provide an inclusive environment.
Education & Experience Qualifications
  • ECE Diploma.
  • Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators in Good Standing.
  • Knowledge and compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act and How Does Learning Happen.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience.
  • Knows and complies with OH&S Act and regulations.
  • Criminal reference check with vulnerable sector screening completed within 6 months.
  • Updated medical completed.
  • Standard First Aid & Level C CPR.
  • Complete all online Salvation Army courses.
  • Food Handlers Certificate (asset).
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle (asset).
Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $23.28 to $29.10 per hour, with a maximum of $34.92 per hour. Placement within the salary range is based on market conditions, internal equity and candidate experience, skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
