Job summary

Noojmowin Teg Health Centre is seeking a Registered Dietitian to provide one-on-one nutritional education, develop care plans, and promote health within the community. You will conduct assessments and collaborate with various health programs to ensure quality care for clients with chronic conditions.

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, relevant registration, and preferably experience with Indigenous communities. This role includes potential exposure to biohazards and requires travel within the region.

Qualifications

• One to three years’ experience working in clinical and/or community nutrition.
• Valid Class G Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Experience working with Indigenous communities.
• Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin is an asset.

Registered Dietitian

Summary
·Provide one on one education to support health promotion and chronic illness prevention through nutrition management across the life span
·Assess and implement nutritional care plans for clients with acute and chronic conditions. Request diagnostic tests and laboratory investigations as required
·Work collaboratively with Noojmowin Teg Health Centre (NTHC) programs and services
·Make evidence-based recommendations when counselling clients on therapeutic diets for their medical condition to support remission and/or recovery
·Incorporate cultural, health beliefs, income and education when developing nutrition care plans
·Provide nutrition assessments and care at the Health Centres, home visits etc., as required
·Liaison with home care programs and/or nursing staff in the First Nations communities
·Provide education and health promotion activities to individuals and groups, on going
·Develop nutrition materials and resources as required
·Complete client charting within the electronic medical record (EMR) database in an accurate and timely manner
·Collaborate and communicate with health care providers and clients to ensure that appropriate management and timely responses to inquiries are provided
·Network with partner agencies to improve practices, enhance services, and improve shared initiatives relevant to the position
·Support, maintain and implement the organizations goals and objectives by promoting the interdisciplinary provider model, revision of programming as required, provision of consultation services to community groups, agencies, and Health Centre staff
·Assistance in the implementation of quality assurance measures to provide quality and cost-efficient nutritional care
·Prepare statistical reports for reporting and evaluation purposes
·Participate in cultural learning opportunities
·Other duties as assigned

Mandatory
·Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and an accredited Dietetic Internship Program
·Registration in good standing with The College of Dietitians of Ontario
·One to three years’ experience working in clinical and/or other community nutrition
·Valid Class G Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle

Preferred
·Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) certification Experience working in a clinical, family health team, diabetes centre or community health centre would be considered an asset
·Experience working with Indigenous communities
·Experience working within an electronic medical record (EMR) system and electronic charting

Knowledge
·Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Software, i.e., Excel, Word, and Outlook
·Strong knowledge of diabetes management including the nutritional and pharmaceutical aspects of care
·Knowledge of Indigenous health issues
·Knowledge of service providers within the Manitoulin Island catchment area
·Understanding and sensitivity for the Anishinabek culture

Skills
·Skilled in interactive teaching techniques for both individuals and groups
·Strong time management, verbal, and written communication skills
·Strong charting skills are an asset

Ability
·Demonstrated ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team, as well as being able to work independently to organize, schedule and prioritize workload is essential
·Ability to deliver presentations and workshops in a group environment
·Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin is an asset
