Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 5+ years of experience to drive capital projects and validate engineering documents. You will coordinate with internal teams and external partners, review designs, and ensure safe, reliable solutions. Regular plant travel in the Northeast region is required.

Fluency in French and English is mandatory. A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and experience in heavy industry or aluminum production are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent foundation.
  • Minimum of five years in mechanical engineering, industrial projects, maintenance, or reliability.
  • Experience supporting capital project development processes (FEL or similar).
  • Ability to interpret and validate technical drawings, specs, and docs.
  • Strong collaboration with operations, maintenance, safety, procurement, and partners.
  • Commitment to safe, reliable, and maintainable engineering solutions.
  • French and English fluent (spoken and written).
  • Experience in heavy industry, manufacturing or aluminum production.
  • Experience in machine safety.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to plants in the Northeast region.

Responsibilities

  • Define mechanical requirements, project boundaries, and deliverables throughout development and execution.
  • Review and validate drawings, specifications, equipment lists, and docs.
  • Coordinate technical activities with engineering firms, suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to feasibility studies, option analyses, estimates, schedules, and recommendations.
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, risk assessments, and progress monitoring.
  • Identify issues, propose practical solutions, and elevate complex decisions as needed.
  • Support development and execution of capital projects with moderately complex mechanical scopes.
  • Provide on-site support and maintain strong operational presence through regular plant travel.
  • Report to the Regional Capital Projects Engineering Manager.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification that provides a strong technical foundation

  • Commitment to safe work practices and the design of reliable, maintainable, and safe engineering solutions
  • Functional bilingualism (French and English), both spoken and written, is required
  • Experience in heavy industry, manufacturing, or aluminum production environments
  • Experience in machine safety
  • Regular travel to plants across the Northeast region is required
