Qualifications

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Licensed and registered as a Nurse or Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Minimum 3 years of post-degree clinical experience in adolescent mental health.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent supervisory experience (within the past 5 years).
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with BCCNM.
  • Preference for inpatient and outpatient psychiatric experience within the last 5 years.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
  • Must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate the delivery of YFPS programs and policies for young offenders through outpatient clinics, contracted services, and travelling clinics in outlying areas.
  • Establish a macro-regional delivery system and maintain effective working relationships with counterparts, clients, and communities across the region.
  • Supervise staff, including assigning work, developing and evaluating performance plans, and approving leave.
  • Develop and implement systems to monitor, review, measure performance, and evaluate standards of practice for management reporting.
  • Ensure a quality improvement process for the team’s clinical records and case reviews.
  • Manage substantial fiscal resources, including contracts, contractor selection, service schedule negotiations, budget oversight, and performance evaluation to authorize payment releases.
  • Develop and manage the regional budget by allocating and monitoring effective use of resources.
  • Represent YFPS in planning and developing services with regional service delivery partners.
  • Participate in YFPS provincial management, including inter-regional and provincial working groups to develop policy, practices, and programs supporting integrated service delivery.
  • Represent the Director of Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services at Review Board hearings and liaise with the Review Board for ongoing community-based management of individuals found unfit to stand trial or not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder under the Criminal Code of Canada.
