Regional Manager – Fort Petroleum LP

Location: Fort Chipewyan, Alberta
Reports To: Director of Operations, Mikisew Group of Companies

Role Summary

The Regional Manager, Fort Petroleum LP, is responsible for the day‑to‑day management, performance, compliance, and service delivery of Fort Petroleum’s fuel activities in Fort Chipewyan. This includes oversight of the Bulk Fuel Plant and furnace fuel delivery services, as well as leadership of a gas station and convenience store.

The Regional Manager ensures a safe, reliable, and compliant fuel supply for the community and business customers, along with consistent, customer‑focused retail service.

This role requires a hands‑on leader who can coordinate staff, manage logistics in a remote northern environment, maintain regulatory compliance, drive commercial performance, and uphold Mikisew Group’s commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and community benefit.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
  • Lead and manage operations of both the Fort Petroleum Bulk Fuel Plant and retail fuel/convenience store operations.
  • Ensure continuous fuel availability to community members, Nation customers, and commercial/industrial customers.
  • Oversee inventory levels, ordering cycles, and logistics coordination (including winter road and air freight continuity).
  • Ensure compliance with the Fort Petroleum HSE Program, Alberta OHS requirements, and National Fire Code (Alberta Edition).
People Leadership
  • Directly supervise the gas station Site Supervisor and Fuel Delivery Supervisor (where applicable).
  • Coordinate scheduling, staffing coverage, rotational planning, and cross‑training between operations where needed.
  • Support local employment and development priorities; contribute to hiring, onboarding, and competency development.
Financial & Commercial Management
  • Monitor site‑level P&L performance for both business units.
  • Optimize gross margin performance across fuel and retail categories.
  • Review weekly/periodic KPI dashboards and drive corrective action where performance deviates.
  • Ensure cost control and efficiency practices are executed in alignment with budget.
Compliance, Safety & Environment
  • Maintain regulatory compliance documentation and ensure corrective actions are closed out.
  • Lead or participate in environmental inspections, spill response exercises, emergency drill coordination, and incident investigations.
  • Ensure safe work practices are followed by all employees and contractors.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Maintain positive relationships with community, Nation leadership, and local stakeholders.
  • Support community‑facing communication related to operational changes, fuel supply disruptions, or major program changes.
Qualifications & Experience
  • 5+ years experience in fuel operations, industrial supply chain, remote logistics operations, or related field.
  • Experience working in northern or remote environments considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to fuel handling, storage tanks, spill response, and safety codes.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience (leading teams, coaching, scheduling, training).
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence required.
  • First Aid, WHMIS, TDG, or spill response certification an asset.
Other Requirements
  • May be required to work occasional irregular hours due to logistics demands (winter road, emergency delivery coordination).
  • Must be a Fort Chipewyan resident.
