Job summary

Harmac Pacific Pulp Mill on Vancouver Island is seeking a skilled Refrigeration Technician to support operations under the Mechanical Superintendent. You will read blueprints, install and service refrigeration and HVAC components, and troubleshoot systems.

The role operates under a Labour Agreement with PPWC Local #8 with a 4 day, 10 hr/day schedule. Qualified traders ensure safety and quality, while strong communication and organization help manage emergency repairs and shifting priorities in a

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings or specifications.
  • Measure and lay out reference points for installation.
  • Install refrigeration components, motors, valves, gauges and compressors using hand and power tools.
  • Measure and cut piping; connect piping using welding and brazing equipment.
  • Install, troubleshoot and overhaul HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Start up system and test for leaks with testing devices.
  • Repair and replace parts for refrigeration and HVAC systems.
  • Have knowledge of centrifugal chillers and DCs navigation.
  • Apply computer skills for navigating DCS controls; understand steam heating systems.

About The Organization

Created in 2008 and privately held, Harmac Pacific Pulp operates a Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft pulp mill on the East coast of Vancouver Island near Nanaimo, BC. Nanaimo Forest Products (NFP) Ltd., the owner of the Harmac Pacific trademark, restarted the mill with a single production line on October 3, 2008. Since that time the mill has grown to two production lines and a capacity of 400,000 tonnes of world-class pulp per year. Key to Harmacs success is the employee ownership model. Our employees are very active participants in the running of the business and have 2 members that they appoint to the company's 6 seats on its Board of Directors. The future of Harmac Pacific Pulp is looking bright. Through extensive capital investments, the organization has made significant improvements to productivity and reliability. In addition, as of 2013, the installation has been complete of a 25 MW Green Energy turbogenerator which we currently use to sell power to BC Hydro.

Job description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Refrigeration Technician to join our team at Harmac Pacific Pulp Mill. Under the direction of the Mechanical Superintendent, you will support operations by performing Youare an independent self-starter,with strong interpersonal and communication skills.In addition, you arehighly organized and adaptable to changes in the work environment. Able to think on your feet and shift priorities mid project as emergency repairs arrive. This position comes under a Labour Agreement with the PPWC Local #8 union and is scheduled for a 4 day, 10 hr/day work week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings or other specifications
  • Measure and lay out reference points for installation
  • Assemble and install refrigeration or air conditioning components such as motors, controls, gauges, valves, circulating pumps, condensers, humidifiers, evaporators and compressors using hand and power tools
  • Measure and cut piping, and connect piping using welding and brazing equipment
  • Install, troubleshoot and overhaul entire heating, ventilation, air handling, refrigeration and air conditioning systems
  • Start up system and test for leaks using testing devices
  • Repair and replace parts and components for entire refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation or heat pump systems
  • Have a working knowledge of centrifugal chillers
  • Computer skills for navigating DCS controls
  • Having working knowledge of steam heating systems
