Job description

FERO Waste and Recycling Inc., a division of The Municipal Group of Companies, is an Environmental Services company that services Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. For over 20 years, FERO has been providing integrated waste collection, management, and recycling services. We are currently seeking the qualifications and expertise of a Red Seal Truck & Transport Mechanic based out of Truro, NS.

Job Summary:
The successful candidate will perform a variety of tasks on heavy-duty trucks, large construction vehicles, tractor trailers, and more.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Regular maintenance and repair for all transport trucks, including repairing and rebuilding engines and transmissions; diagnosing and repairing air brake, suspension, steering, and electrical systems.
  2. Complete reports to record problems and work performed.
  3. Inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions.
  4. Diagnose faults and malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace unit.
  5. Adjust, repair, or replace parts and components of transport truck and truck-trailer systems.
  6. Inspect brake systems, wheel bearings, steering components, and other engine parts, and perform repairs as required.
  7. Perform scheduled maintenance service.
  8. Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's specifications.
  9. Help prevent breakdowns by checking, cleaning, and oiling machine parts regularly.
  10. Be aware of surroundings at all times.
  11. Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

  1. Candidates must have completed Interprovincial Red Seal Mechanic Certificate.
  2. 3 years’ experience in trucking or heavy equipment.
  3. Ability to perform complete repair and overhaul functions.
  4. Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  5. Class 3 Driver's License.
  6. Willingness to work in a team environment.
  7. High attention to detail.
  8. Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  9. Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  10. Working safely is a condition of employment.
