Elk Valley Resources operates four steelmaking coal mines in the Elk Valley, BC, and is seeking skilled trades professionals to join a fast-paced team. The Crane Operator role is site-based at our Elk Valley operations, with relocation nearby to Sparwood, BC.

Qualifications

• Valid Interprovincial Red Seal Mobile Crane Operator Certification required.
• Preference for Hydraulic 300 ton and Under certificate.
• Driver's license: Class 5 mandatory; Class 3 or 1 asset.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate crane in open pit coal mine and relocate equipment.
• Set up crane for lifting, mobilize and stabilize, determine load weights, draft lift plans.
• Operate conventional and hydraulic mobile cranes up to 300 ton.
• Perform rigging for various jobs and routine crane maintenance.

About the role

Reporting to the Supervisor, Maintenance, the Crane Operator is responsible for safely operating the crane to provide operational support in an open pit coal mine by relocating and repositioning equipment and materials. This is a permanent position. Successful candidates will have excellent interpersonal and communications skills and excel within a fast paced, flexible work environment that interacts with a variety of trades. The position is site‑based at our operations in the Elk Valley, and the ability to reliably commute to or relocate near Sparwood, B.C is necessary.

In this role you will

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Setup crane for lifting including mobilizing and stabilizing, calculating crane capacities, determining load weights and drafting lift plans
• Operate conventional and hydraulic mobile Cranes, up to 300 ton, to lift, move, position or place equipment and materials
• Perform various types of rigging to efficiently complete minor to complex jobs
• Perform routine maintenance work, such as cleaning and lubricating cranes

Requirements

• Valid Interprovincial Red Seal Mobile Crane Operator Certification
• Preference to applicants holding a Mobile Crane Operator Hydraulic 300 ton and Under Certificate
• Applicants require a Class 5 Driver’s License; a Class 3 or Class 1 Driver’s License would be considered an asset
