Mission for this Position

The Recruitment & Training Coordinator is responsible for supporting the recruitment of Inuit candidates and coordinating community-based training programs that advance Inuit employment across Baffinland. This role combines key responsibilities from recruitment, training delivery, community outreach, and logistics coordination. The incumbent will work closely with Baffinland Community Liaison Officers (BCLOs), community partners, Nunavut Arctic College, and internal departments to ensure training programs, Work Ready Programs (WRP), and Employment & Training Information Sessions (ETIS) run smoothly and that strong pipelines of Inuit candidates are built and maintained. A significant component of this role is travelling regularly to communities, Mary River Mine, and Oakville. Candidates must be willing and able to travel frequently.

Main Accountabilities
Recruitment of Inuit Candidates
  • Conduct full-cycle recruitment activities: resume review, pre-screening, interviews, reference checks, and offer coordination.
  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of Inuit applicants for staff and site-based roles.
  • Promote job opportunities within Nunavut communities and ensure hiring practices align with IIBA commitments.
  • Partner closely with BCLOs, Iqaluit-based personnel, and hiring managers to support interviews, information sessions, and community recruitment.
  • Maintain accurate information in the Applicant Tracking System (ICIMS), including requisition updates and candidate files.
  • Provide recruitment statistics, Inuit hiring metrics, and reporting as required.
  • Remove barriers to Inuit employment through proactive communication, problem-solving, and candidate support.
Coordination of Community Training Programs
  • Assist in planning and coordinating community-based training programs including WRP, ETIS, and new Baffinland-funded initiatives.
  • Support training delivery including participant registration, documentation, attendance tracking, photos, and on-site coordination.
  • Undergo full training and receive ongoing support to deliver the Community Work Ready Program (WRP), prepare materials, facilitate sessions, and engage participants across the community.
  • Host the community Employment and Training Information Session event
  • Visit the local community high school students on a quarterly basis to present Baffinland, the mining industry and available career opportunities
  • Work with BCLOs to promote training schedules and ensure participation.
  • Support onboarding requirements for new hires including e-learning completion, training forms, and guidance for community-based candidates.
  • Liaise with Nunavut Arctic College, high schools, and other partners to understand local training offerings and align with community needs.
Travel & Community Engagement
  • Travel frequently to communities across Nunavut, the Mary River Mine site, and Oakville corporate office as needed.
  • Represent Baffinland at community events, career fairs, and meetings.
  • Build trust-based relationships with Inuit communities through consistent presence, communication, and follow-through.
Logistics, Scheduling & Administration
  • Coordinate logistics for training activities including flights, venues, accommodations, catering, materials, etc.
  • Work with the Oakville Training Program Coordinator and Communications team on advertising sessions via radio, social media, and community channels.
  • Support the development of annual training and recruitment schedules to meet IIBA requirements.
  • Track expenditures, obtain vendor quotes, and support financial documentation associated with training programs.
  • Prepare monthly reports, trackers, and updates on recruitment and training activities.
