Job summary

AgeCare is seeking a Recreation Worker to plan, develop and run a variety of meaningful recreation and leisure activities that promote wellbeing, purpose and community among residents.

You will assist in creating engaging spaces, communicating with residents and families, and supporting quality improvement through ongoing evaluation of the program. Prior experience with seniors in long-term care is preferred.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in a long-term care setting.
• Graduate of a post-secondary diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation or other related field.
• Enrolled in a program with the intent to complete within three years of hiring.
• Knowledge of planning, development and facilitation of meaningful activities across wellness domains.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop and run daily recreation and leisure activities in the home and in the community.
• Create and maintain engaging spaces that support resident activity and participation.
• Develop and maintain communications with residents, families, volunteers and community partners.
• Observe, report and document changes in residents’ ability to participate, updating care plans as needed.
• Support other departments to foster a culture of resident engagement and quality improvement.
