Job summary

AgeCare seeks a Recreation Therapy Aide to support planned and spontaneous activities that promote residents' engagement and well-being. You will help residents develop skills, build relationships, and foster social connections in a caring environment.

The role requires a post-secondary credential in Recreation and Leisure Studies or related field, plus enrollment in a related program with completion within three years. Travel within the province may be required on occasion.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering recreation and leisure services in healthcare/long-term care is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate records and documentation (assessments, care planning, MDS coding, progress notes, calendars).
• Participate in program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensure recreation supplies and equipment are well maintained and compliant with infection control standards; report deficiencies.
• Work diverse shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Possibly travel within the province for education, training, and meetings.

The Opportunity

The Recreation Therapy Aide (RTA) supports the delivery of both planned and spontaneous recreational opportunities that promote residents' engagement, independence, and overall well-being. This role helps residents maintain and develop skills, build meaningful relationships, and foster social connections within a supportive care environment.

What You Will Do

• Maintain accurate and timely departmental records and complete all required documentation, including Resident Assessments/Re-Assessments, Care Planning, MDS Coding/RAPs, Progress Notes, Welbi entries, and monthly calendars.
• Participate in the ongoing evaluation of the recreation program and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensure recreation supplies, equipment, and resources are maintained in good working condition in accordance with infection prevention and control standards, and report any deficiencies to the Program Manager.
• Work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
• May involve travel within the province for education, training, and meetings as required.

What You Bring

• A certificate, diploma or degree from a post-secondary program in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field from a recognized college or university.
• Current enrollment in a post-secondary diploma or degree program in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field, with the expectation of program completion within three years of hire.
• Knowledge of and experience in delivering recreation and leisure services in a healthcare or long-term care setting is considered an asset.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic care environment.
• Must be able to provide a current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Record Check, or be willing to obtain one.
