Job summary

Sienna Senior Living’s Norfinch Community in North York, ON is seeking a Recreation Therapist for a temporary full-time days role. You will assess residents, plan and deliver recreation therapy activities, and document care in accordance with MDS-RAI guidelines.

Requirements include a university degree in Recreation/Leisure Studies (or Health Sciences with Therapeutic Recreation), TRO/RTRO registration, and at least 3 years of experience with seniors.

Qualifications

• University degree in Recreation/Leisure Studies or Health Sciences with Therapeutic Recreation
• Membership in good standing with TRO (Ontario) or BC Therapeutic Recreation Association
• Registered Recreation Therapist (R/TRO) or in process of registration with TRO
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with seniors
• Meet MDS-RAI guidelines definition
• Pass Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Records Check

Responsibilities

• Providing and assessing recreation therapy activities including outings per policy and resident plan of care
• Developing and sustaining a plan of care to meet residents’ needs
• Ensuring thorough evaluation of assessments and program delivery for efficacy of recreation services
• Guiding recreation therapy assistants with proper documentation (MDS/RAI, Activity Pro)
• Maintaining accurate records of care and program delivery
• Performing other duties as assigned

The Recreation Therapist is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents and ignites the warmth of human connection.

As a Recreation Therapist your typical day will impact in the following ways:

• Providing and assessing for recreation therapy activities including outings in accordance with established policy, physician’s orders, and resident plan of care and within the scope of practice.
• Developing and sustaining a plan of care to meet residents’ assessed needs based on individual strengths, needs and interest of residents to establish importance and direction of therapeutic recreation intervention.
• Ensuring that thorough evaluation of assessments, intervention plans, program development and program delivery is consistently being completed to ensure the efficacy of recreation services.
• Guiding recreation therapy assistants ensuring proper documentation is completed MDS/RAI, Activity Pro; observes facilitation of activities, engages in reflective practice to ensure appropriate and thorough programming is taking place.
• Maintaining accurate and complete records of care delivered, documentation, program development and program delivery.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Must haves:

• University degree in Recreation/Leisure Studies, and/or a degree in Health Sciences with a post graduate degree in Therapeutic Recreation, from a recognized university or equivalent education and experience.
• Member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO). Applicable to Ontario applicants.
• Member in good standing with BC Therapeutic Recreation Association. Applicable to British Columbia applicants.
• Be a registered Recreation Therapist (R/TRO) or in process of registration with TRO. Applicable to Ontario applicants.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with seniors.
• Qualifications must meet definition under MDS-RAI guidelines.
• All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check. Applicable to Ontario applicants.
• All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check. Applicable to British Columbia applicants.
