Job summary

Alberta Health Services in Red Deer is seeking a Recreation Therapist I for the Stroke Early Supported Discharge team at Red Deer Regional Hospital.

You will provide therapeutic recreation services as part of a multidisciplinary team, including assessment, treatment planning, and collaboration with patients, families, and the health care team, while supporting community reintegration after hospitalization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Therapy or related field.
• Active registration with, or eligibility for registration with, the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

Responsibilities

• Provide therapeutic recreation services as part of an interdisciplinary team for post‑stroke patients.
• Assess, plan, implement and monitor treatment progress with patients and families.
• Collaborate with the health care team, participate in rounds and meetings.
• Coordinate with community partners and volunteers for programming.

Job description

An exciting opportunity exists to work as the Recreation Therapist for the Stroke Early Supported Discharge team based out of Red Deer Regional Hospital. As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be providing therapeutic Recreation Therapy services as part of a multidisciplinary team to Post Stroke Patients as they explore leisure activities in their community post hospital stay. You will be expected to communicate and collaborate effectively with the patients, their families/supports, and with the interdisciplinary team. In this role you will be supported by the Stroke Early Supported Discharge Team Lead, the Allied Health Area Manager and Recreational Therapy Professional Practice Lead, with opportunities to connect with professional in surrounding areas. You may also need to collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator, as well as community partners, to provide effective programming.

Description:

As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients' treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.
