As the Recreation Assistant, you will conduct therapeutic and recreational activities to meet the diverse needs of residents, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you work collaboratively to implement a person-centered Wellness Model of Care that promotes health, wellness, and a safe, empowering environment for residents.

About The Role

Part-Time
Sun-Wed (8 am - 4 pm)

The successful candidate will hold a Class 4 Driver’s License (or be willing to obtain it during the probationary period) and a Recreation Therapy Diploma or Recreation Aide Certificate.

Role Overview

As a Recreation Assistant, you are at the heart of creating joyful and engaging experiences that support the well-being and independence of our residents. Rooted in the values of Baptist Housing and servant leadership, you foster a warm and vibrant environment where residents feel empowered, connected, and cared for. You’ll work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver person-centered programs that align with our Wellness Model of Care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, and lead a variety of recreational and therapeutic programs that support the physical, emotional, and cognitive needs of residents
  • Support mealtimes and provide basic resident care as needed
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for residents and team members
  • Provide guidance and supervision to volunteers involved in recreational programming
  • Monitor and document residents' participation and progress in activities
  • Promote resident autonomy and dignity by tailoring activities to individual preferences and abilities
  • Follow all infection prevention and control protocols and support health and safety initiatives
  • Continue your professional development to enhance your effectiveness in the role
Requirements
  • Grade 12 completion
  • Recreation Therapy Aide certificate or diploma (minimum 12-month program)
  • Current Food Safe Certificate
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • At least 1 year of experience in implementing recreation programs in residential care
  • A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered, such as a Registered Care Aide certificate with an additional activity aide certificate.
  • Class 4 License is mandatory

Compensation

As a member of the Hospital Employees Union, you will earn an hourly wage of $29.83 and be welcomed into an environment where support for you is prioritized.
