Job summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Recreation Assistant at Berkley Care Centre in North Vancouver, BC. You will work in a team-based environment to carry out recreation programs in consultation with the Recreation Therapist, including outings and activity facilitation.

Responsibilities include coordinating transport, demonstrating activities, adapting programs for independence, and guiding volunteers. The role requires effective communication, organization, and physical ability to perform

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Recreation Diploma Program or equivalent education/experience.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to teach and guide others.
  • Ability to organize workload and manage equipment as part of recreation activities.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and oversee outings for patients/clients/residents.
  • Coordinate transport to and from activities and portering as needed.
  • Demonstrate techniques of recreation activities and adapt activities to maintain independence.
  • Provide direction to volunteers and report progress to the Recreation Therapist or team.
  • Prepare furnishings and equipment for designated activities and maintain inventory.

The salary for this position is CAD $32.84/Hr.

Job Summary

Come work as a Recreation Assistant with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) at Berkley Care Centre in North Vancouver, BC!

Within the context of a dynamic patient/client/resident service culture, and in accordance with the established mission, vision, values and objectives of the organization, works in a team based environment to carry out recreation programs in consultation with the Recreation Therapist. Duties include organizing and overseeing patients/clients/residents on outings, coordinating the portering of patients/clients/residents to and from the activity, demonstrating techniques of recreation activities, carrying out prescribed adaptations to recreation activities to enable patients/clients/residents to maintain maximum potential for independence as per the instruction of the Recreation Therapist, providing functional direction to volunteers, evaluating and reporting relevant observations of patient’s/client’s/resident's progress/participation to the Recreation Therapist or interdisciplinary team, organizing furnishings and equipment for designated activities, and maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies. May operate a bus with a passenger seating capacity of up to 25 passengers (including the driver) to transport patients/clients/residents to and from community participation activities as required by site/program.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Recreation Diploma Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to teach.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
