The Recreation Aide is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents and ignites the warmth of human connection.

As an Recreation Aide your typical day will impact in the following ways:

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the development and revision of departmental procedures and programs under the guidance of the Team Leader.
  • Set up the activity area as necessary and assist in transporting residents to and from programs, if required.
  • Assist in monitoring the residents interests, needs and progress.
  • Maintain program and resident records according to departmental policies. Regularly report participation and feedback by residents to the Team Leader.
  • Promote social interaction among residents by assuming leadership of assigned activities or special events, assist new residents with orientation to the building and to the recreation program, and introduce them to others within the residence to promote conversation and social interaction among residents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an Indigenous Institute, private career college, college of applied arts and technology, another degree granting Institution or equivalent work experience working with seniors.
  • Experience in working with seniors including an understanding of motivation concepts with seniors.
  • Understanding of leisure principles.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class F, or provincial equivalent, if you need to drive a bus).
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check. Applicable to Ontario applicants.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check. Applicable to British Columbia applicants.
