Connecting-Care- in Canada is seeking a Recreation Aide to support engaging programs that enhance the well-being and sense of community for residents. You will help implement recreation activities addressing social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual needs.

In this full-time daytime role, you will build connections with residents, plan a balanced recreation calendar, coordinate events with kitchen staff, track attendance, and support volunteers to enrich daily life.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent, recreation training is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Build meaningful connections with residents to understand interests and life experiences.
  • Advocate for resident preferences and ensure activities reflect individual needs.
  • Assist in planning and implementing recreation programs, fostering inclusion.
  • Create and coordinate a balanced recreation calendar addressing residents' social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual needs.
  • Introduce new program ideas monthly to keep activities fresh and meaningful.
  • Organize special events and outings to foster community connections.
  • Collaborate with kitchen services to coordinate refreshments for events.
  • Track attendance accurately and document resident participation.
  • Maintain resident paperwork such as Leisure Biographies and PIPA forms as required.
  • Send monthly recreation summaries to designated offices as needed.
  • Support recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers as needed.
  • Develop and maintain program plans with clear guidelines for execution.
  • Adhere to emergency management and health & safety protocols.
  • Facilitate effective communication among care partners, residents and families.
  • Identify health, safety or maintenance concerns and report promptly.
  • Keep living and service areas clean, organized and conducive to engagement.
  • Support community initiatives that enhance companionship, purpose and meaning.
  • Promote a culture of engagement and spontaneity.
  • Perform additional duties to support community well-being.

As a Recreation Aide, you play a vital role in supporting and delivering engaging programs that enhance the well‑being of residents and foster a sense of community. You will foster a vibrant community that promotes meaningful relationships, individual choice, and a sense of belonging for all. You will assist in implementing recreation programming that provides a well‑rounded approach to well‑being, addressing the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual needs of residents.

Key Accountabilities
  • Build meaningful connections with residents to understand their interests, hobbies, and life experiences.
  • Advocate for resident preferences, ensuring recreational activities reflect individual needs and choices.
  • Encourage and involve residents in all aspects of planning and implementing recreation programs, fostering a sense of purpose and inclusion.
  • Assist in the creation and coordination of a balanced recreation calendar that addresses the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual needs of residents.
  • Explore and introduce new program ideas each month to keep activities fresh, engaging, and meaningful for residents.
  • Assist in organizing special events and outings that create meaningful experiences and foster community connections for residents.
  • Work collaboratively with the kitchen service area to coordinate refreshments for special events, ensuring an enjoyable experience for residents.
  • Ensure accurate attendance tracking and assist with documentation of resident participation.
  • Maintain up to date paperwork on residents such as Resident Leisure Biographies, PIPA forms, Outings Consent, etc. (If required)
  • Send monthly recreation summary report to the Home Office Designate. (If required)
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, supervision, and retention of volunteers, ensuring they are meaningfully engaged in enhancing resident experiences. (If required)
  • Develop and maintain recreation program plans that provide clear guidelines on how each program is structured and facilitated. (If required)
  • Adhere to and enforce emergency management plans, infection control protocols, WHMIS, and health & safety wellness strategies.
  • Facilitate effective communication among care partners, residents, and families.
  • Assist in managing inventory and supplies.
  • Identify health, safety, or maintenance concerns and report them for timely resolution.
  • Ensure living and service areas are clean, organized, and conducive to engagement and comfort.
  • Support community-wide initiatives that enhance companionship, purpose, and meaning in daily life.
  • Promote a culture of engagement and spontaneity, creating opportunities for residents to thrive.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support community well‑being and engagement.
Required Education
  • Grade 12 diploma or recognized equivalent.
  • Education or training in recreation or a related field is an asset.
  • Current clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector check.
Required Skills
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Experience in assisting with recreation programming.
  • Demonstrated a ability to engage residents through interactive and meaningful activities.
  • Commitment to person‑directed care and the Eden Alternative Philosophy.
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to motivate and engage residents through meaningful activities and connections.
  • Awareness of accident and injury prevention, with adherence to safe work practices.
  • Ability to complete mandatory training and education requirements within designated timelines.
Additional Education and Skills
  • Previous experience in recreation programming within a senior living or community setting is an asset.
  • Strong sense of humor, creativity, and adaptability.
  • Willingness to modify role to enhance resident experiences and engagement.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional integrity within the community.
