Job summary

Longboat, a Winnipeg-based real estate development and property management company, is seeking a Real Estate Accountant to manage the property accounting function and Yardi system. The role involves analyzing income statements, providing variance commentary to Property Managers, and supporting development projects with financial input.

The ideal candidate has at least 5 years in a similar real estate accounting role, strong Excel skills, and experience with property management software.

Qualifications

• Completion of a certificate or diploma program in accounting.
• Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role, preferably in a real estate setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Experience with property management software is an asset.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.
• Ability to effectively manage time, adapt to change and comfortable in working through ambiguous situations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial statements and provide management with commentary on significant revenue and expense variances.
• Assist the management team with payroll, IT and corporate accounting functions.
• Recruit, train and mentor junior accounting staff such as Asper co-op students.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to prepare annual budgets and forecasts and complete year-end requirements.
• Manage the Yardi software and assist with system upgrades as needed.

About Us:

Longboat is a Winnipeg-based real estate development company that has a history of successful office, retail, and residential development projects such as the Canada Life Centre, Hockey For All Centre, Centrepoint, and The Oaks residential neighborhood among many. The Role:

The Real Estate Accountant has responsibility for managing the property accounting function, including management of the Yardi system. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a team environment and will have a natural curiosity in exploring income statement variances, providing commentary and recommendations to the Property Managers to ensure our assets are operating effectively and cost effectively. There is opportunity for the right candidate to support the development team, with accounting specific input for active and future projects, including investment and financial analysis.

• Manage the Yardi software and assist in system upgrades as needed

Qualifications & Skillset:

• Completion of a certificate or diploma program in accounting
• Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role, preferably in a real estate setting. A combination of education and experience will be considered
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Experience with property management software is an asset
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy
• Ability to effectively manage time, adapt to change and comfortable in working through ambiguous situations
