Job summary

The Real Estate Accountant is responsible for the commercial development accounting in our portfolio. The Western Region portfolio extends from British Columbia east to Manitoba and includes office, retail, industrial, and ground lease assets.

The property management, asset management, leasing, development, and finance team members all interact and work with our Real Estate Accountants.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for full cycle accounting for a portfolio of development assets.
  • Maintain the general ledgers, including review and preparation of journal entries, accruals, operating expenses and capital expenditures.
  • Oversee job setup and related commitments for all development projects.
  • Manage vendor invoice payment process, including entry and review of all development invoices.
  • Collaborate with the Development team to ensure development draws and invoices are approved and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Coordination and preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, working directly with the Development Manager to provide budget to actual variance explanations and forecast projections.
  • Management Fee calculation and entry.
  • Monthly completion of Development Status Reports (DSR).
  • Monthly calculation of cash calls, where required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-secondary education in accounting.
  • Experience working with sub-ledger accounting.
  • Previous ERP information system use and experience working in digital environment.
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting contracts.
  • Job cost/capital experience beneficial.
  • Property management experience beneficial.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word.
  • Detail oriented and analytical with a keen eye for detecting oddities and a curiosity to investigate them.
  • Clear oral and written communication.

The base salary for this position is between $55,900 - 84,048 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc ).
