Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and rail site experience are required.

Responsibilities

  • Be resident on site and perform inspections per contract documents.
  • Prepare site reports and oversee QA/QC testing with client team.
  • Coordinate construction activities with Engineer of Record and contractor.
  • Ensure safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance on site.
  • Maintain records for as-built drawings and contractor invoices.
  • Engage in planning, risk assessment, and project interfaces with stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and track closures.

Job Description

AECOM Mississauga is looking for a temporary (1 yr contract) Railway Construction Inspector - Civil / Structural to work on a client site based in the Greater Toronto Area for Railway related Contract Administration of projects.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to
  • Be resident at the place of work (on site) and work independently under the general direction of the Contract Administrator.
  • Coordinate and carry out daily inspections during construction of the work to verify compliance in accordance with contract documents and assist the Engineer of Record for construction compliance in accordance with the Design.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly, and daily, reports including site photos summarizing progress and identifying issues to be forwarded to the client.
  • Ensure that Contractor follows quality control process for conformance in accordance with contract documents and coordinate quality assurance testing as required.
  • Provide oversight of Contractor’s construction activities, schedule, logistics, site access, site conditions, utilities, health and safety, environment, project interfaces, operations and maintenance, design and document assurance, site assurance and testing, commissioning and asset handover as required.
  • Keep track of work on site and record changes for completion of as-built drawings and verify quantities of item for review of contractor’s invoices.
  • Provide site presence throughout construction by regular daytime, nighttime, and weekend site visits if required for planned track closures.
  • Oversee the safe delivery of construction and maintenance projects in compliance with Client policies, procedures, systems, resources, and deliverables to ensure the safety and protection of the public, employees and contractors.
  • Engage in integrated planning process providing constructability advice / guidance, involve in Integrated Route Planning process and utilize necessary tools provided by Client as required.
  • Participate in communications with relevant teams and stakeholders to understand requirements for work plans to ensure construction and maintenance projects are developed, implemented, and integrated consistently, efficiently, safely, and in a coordinated manner.
  • Ability to coordinate work on multi-disciplinary projects that are in design stage.
  • Strong oral and written skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong working relationships with the Contractor.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Construction Engineering + 2 years of relevant experience OR Technical Diploma + 4 years relevant experience in working in Heavy Rail (Commuter and Freight Railway) environment with inspection of heavy civil works, structural, railway track, supervising construction sites, field engineering, site work inspections in the railway right of way for Class 1 railway.
  • Must be able to obtain eRailSafe certification and the security clearance required to access client rail sites.
  • Must have experience working on the construction on Railway Projects.
  • Must be able to work night shifts.
  • Must be able to get client training certifications to be able to work on Railway sites.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ideally 8+ years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated on-site construction supervision experience in construction of railway related infrastructure, transit, commercial and municipal infrastructure including but not limited to transit stations, track grading, parking structures, parking, track, railway signals, bridges, grade separations, tracks, drainage, underground tunnels and rehabilitation of transit facility building projects.
  • Knowledge of railway bridge design standards, railway regulations and AREMA Guidelines is an asset.
  • Experience working on Railway Bridge projects is an asset.
  • Experience with Metrolinx General Engineering Instructions (GEI) and Network Access Planning Tool (NAPT)
  • Understanding application of various Metorlinx Standards and Guidelines (mainly Track, Structures Signals & Communications)
  • Professional Engineer ( P. Eng.) or EIT licensed to practice in the Province of Ontario
  • Certified Engineering Technologist ( C. E. T) in the Province of Ontario is an asset.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $35.5 to $60.
