Job summary

Kinectrics is seeking a Radiation Protection Supervisor to lead field-based radiation protection activities across licensed facilities, primarily Tiverton, ON, with travel as required. The role reports to the Radiation Protection Program Manager and requires extensive experience in CNSC-licensed environments.

The position involves surveys, monitoring, and monitoring work, mentoring RP Technicians, and ensuring ALARA compliance while supporting radiological waste characterization and disposal

Qualifications

• Completion of three year community college or undergraduate degree in Radiation Science, Nuclear Technology, Health Physics or a related field, or equivalent combined education and experience plus specialized courses.
• Minimum 10 years related experience or equivalent with a minimum of 3–5 years of direct radiation protection field experience in a CNSC‑licensed environment.
• Proficiency in radiation protection principles and ALARA oversight.
• Experience with gamma spectroscopy, contamination surveys, and dose estimates.

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform hands-on radiation protection activities, including surveys, monitoring, sampling, and contamination control using approved instrumentation.
• Provide expert guidance on radiological hazards, shielding, and ALARA planning to teams and clients.
• Oversee RP program compliance with CNSC and international standards.

Hours per week: 40 (This is a shift worker position. Shift workers may be assigned 8-10, 12 hour shifts and be required to work day, afternoon and/or night shifts. Rotating shifts, overtime, weekend and field work may be required)

Salary Range: $125,627.83

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

The Radiation Protection Supervisor is a field-focused, hands‑on role responsible for executing and leading day-to-day radiation protection activities at Kinectrics licensed facilities. Report primarily to Kinectrics Bruce County sites (Tiverton, ON), with routine travel to licensed facilities in Teeswater, and occasional travel to Etobicoke as operationally required.

Support additional client or Kinectrics sites on an as‑needed basis.

• Lead and perform hands‑on radiation protection activities, including surveys, monitoring, sampling, and contamination control using approved instrumentation.
• Provide expert guidance on radiological hazards, characterization, shielding, and ALARA planning to teams and clients.
• Support and enforce the Kinectrics RP Program to ensure compliance with CNSC and international standards.
• Oversee radiological measurements, data analysis, and reporting to support operational decisions.
• Direct and mentor RP Technicians, ensuring safe, compliant field execution.
• Support radiological waste characterization, management, and disposal strategies.
• Plan and execute radiological work, including hazard identification, job coverage, and control measures.
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with RP Program, ISO, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in audits, pre‑job planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Foster a strong safety culture, mentor staff, and support training and knowledge sharing.
• Stay current on best practices and drive innovation in radiation protection methods and tools.
• Work primarily in Tiverton, ON, with travel to other licensed facilities as required.

What You Need to Succeed

• Completion of three year community college or undergraduate degree in Radiation Science, Nuclear Technology, Health Physics or a related field, or equivalent combined education and experience plus specialized courses
• Minimum 10 years related experience or equivalent with a minimum of 3–5 years of direct radiation protection field experience in a CNSC‑licensed environment is required, with direct involvement in designing, improving and enforcing radiation protection projects, programs, and procedures.
• Demonstrated proficiency in hands‑on radiation protection principles, including operational radiation protection, radiological hazard assessments, and ALARA oversight
• Practical experience in radiation measurement techniques (e.g., gamma spectroscopy, contamination surveys, dose estimates).
• Experience supporting and overseeing radiological field work at licensed nuclear facilities, preferably with experience providing oversight and support during High Hazard work, First of a Kind (FOAK) work, or complex/unique radioactive work
• Experience leading or supervising nuclear decommissioning projects and the execution of tasks
• Experience supervising a team of RP technologists and field personnel
• Knowledge and experience supporting decommissioning activities, waste characterization, radioactive material handling, transport, and release criteria.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

• Ability to lead or contribute to multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
• Certification by the Canadian Radiation Protection Association (CRPA) an asset, particularly for advanced field assessments or waste classification tasks,
• Strong written and verbal communication skills appropriate for technical documentation and field coordination.
• Ability to work collaboratively within unionized, multidisciplinary environments.
• Familiarity with CANDU reactor systems and radiological hazards
• Understanding of operational radiological waste characterization principles and methods, classification, logistics, and volume minimization strategies.
• Familiarity with Class‑7 Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) requirements and familiarity with Packaging and Transport of Nuclear Substances Regulations (PTNSR).
• Ability to support or develop as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Class‑7 shipments for company‑wide shipments of radioactive material.
• Knowledge of radiation protection instrumentation QA/QC and calibration practices.
• Experience supporting training or mentoring of radiation protection personnel.
• Ability to successfully obtain and maintain a valid nuclear site security clearance.
• CRPA certification considered an asset.

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
