Work Arrangement: Hybrid, Ottawa ON (Canada) – three days a week on‑site, two remote

They are expanding a flagship threat-detection platform and need a hands‑on R&D Manager who can blend modern engineering practices with people‑first leadership. You will chart the technical path, embed AI into day‑to‑day development, and foster an inclusive, high-performance culture that keeps attackers out and innovation in.

What You’ll Do

Technical Strategy and Delivery

• Set the technical north star for a multi‑tenant cloud security platform, selecting patterns, frameworks, and tooling that scale to millions of protected endpoints.
• Translate product vision into clear engineering roadmaps, backlog items, and release milestones, driving continuous delivery.
• Embed AI-assisted workflows (code review, test generation, performance tuning) that shorten feedback cycles and raise code quality.
• Champion service-level objectives, observability, resiliency, and cost optimization from design through production.

Product & Stakeholder Leadership

• Partner with product, UX, and go-to-market teams to shape new capabilities that delight customers and outpace threats.
• Own end-to-end feature lifecycles, balancing speed, security, and user experience.

Talent Development & Team Health

• Recruit, onboard, mentor, and retain a diverse team of software, DevOps, and QA engineers.
• Hold recurring one‑on‑one sessions and career‑planning discussions, ensuring every teammate has a growth roadmap.

Operational Excellence

• Forecast and manage budgets, resources, and risks, bringing data-driven predictability to delivery.
• Streamline collaboration with HR, IT, and Security for equipment, access, and compliance requests.
• Stay current with threat trends, frameworks, and open-source releases, seeding proofs of concept that quickly validate new ideas.
• Lead retrospectives and blameless post-mortems, converting lessons learned into action.

What You Bring

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ in a technical‑lead or people‑management capacity.
• Proven delivery of SaaS or cloud-native security, networking, or data analytics products on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Hands‑on with one or more of Go, Java, Python, or TypeScript, plus container orchestration (Kubernetes or similar).
• Demonstrated application of AI or ML to accelerate engineering workflows or ship intelligent product features.
• Strong Agile and CI/CD mindset; able to turn ambiguity into backlog.
• Bonus points for experience with intrusion‑prevention technologies, XDR platforms, or large-scale log pipelines.
