Job summary

GrizzlyTrek Group Ltd. in Exshaw, Alberta, is seeking a Quarry Manager to lead the safe, efficient operation of the quarry and oversee mine planning, production, and maintenance at the plant site.

You will direct quarry employees and contractors, manage budgets, improve cost performance, and ensure regulatory compliance while collaborating with plant operations, maintenance, quality, and environment teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in mining-related field.
  • 5 to 8 years managing a mine operation with a track record in aggregates.
  • Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and SAP.
  • Strong people management and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of quarry manufacturing processes, mine planning, and cost management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead quarry and mining operations to ensure reliable supply of materials for plant production.
  • Monitor daily production, blast layouts, drilling, safety, labour planning, and primary crushing.
  • Set expectations, provide coaching, and develop a high-performing, accountable team.
  • Review and execute long-term mining plans and quarry reclamation.
  • Develop crushing strategies and resolve material handling issues ( shale, gypsum, etc.).
  • Oversee maintenance budgeting and costs for mobile equipment at the plant.

The Role

GrizzlyTrek is seeking one Quarry Manager to join our valued client's team at a plant in Exshaw, Alberta.
The Quarry Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and sustainable operation of the quarry. You lead quarry employees and contractors and are accountable for safety, environmental compliance, production, quality, mine planning, equipment performance, budgeting, cost management, and continuous improvement. You work closely with Plant Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, Environment, and other departments so quarry activities align with current and long term plant requirements.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as a key member of the Plant Leadership Team, contributing to a high-performance culture focused on safety, quality, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
  • Direct all quarry and mining operations to ensure a reliable and consistent supply of high-quality materials for plant production
  • Monitor daily production, blast layout and patterns, drilling operations, blasting operations, safety, workforce planning, training, labour relations, and primary crushing and stacking of raw materials
  • Set clear expectations, monitor performance, and provide regular coaching and feedback to build a high-performing, engaged, and accountable team
  • Review, confirm, and execute the long term mining plan so sufficient reserves are located and verified in quality, and execute the quarry reclamation plans
  • Develop crushing strategies for all additives and limestone, and resolve material handling issues (shale, red shale, gypsum, iron, sandstone, etc.)
  • Reduce the quarry's operating cost through continuous improvement initiatives and less reliance on third-party services
  • Manage all aspects of mobile equipment maintenance at the plant, including direct oversight of scheduling and maintenance, and responsibility for the maintenance budget and costs
  • Provide visible leadership in health, safety, and environmental performance through consistent application of company policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
  • Support implementation of new technologies, operational best practices, and standardized work processes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce operational and environmental risks
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and quality teams to align plant operations with business objectives and performance targets
  • Foster a positive, collaborative work environment that supports teamwork, inclusion, and continuous learning, and promote a culture of safety by communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience (Mining Engineering, Geology, or related field preferred)
  • 5 to 8 years of experience as a successful manager of a mine operation, with a proven track record in aggregate manufacturing or a related industry
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel or Google Sheets, and SAP
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage, engage, and develop employees, set clear expectations, and provide constructive feedback
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with thorough knowledge of quarry manufacturing processes, mine planning, development, and cost management
  • Accountable for product delivery to the plant, navigating obstacles, finding resources, and driving positive solutions
Safety and PPE Requirements
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of site approved Personal Protection Equipment (\"PPE\"), including but not limited to respirators.
  • Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
