the interview process
Dedicated to finding our ideal candidates.

Interviewing is a crucial part of our hiring process. As we getto knowyou better, you will have the chance to get to know us better, too. Our interviewprocess is designedto play to the strengths of our ideal candidate. We will ask you technical questions that require complexthought and ask you to talk us through your process as you problem solve. We want you to be prepared and confident in each stage of the interview process so youare able toshow us your very best work. In anticipation of our recruitment process, we’ve outlinedhow toprepare and what to expect.

Step 1
Online Application & Technical Assessment

You will complete the online application and an online test designed to assess your knowledge of relevant subjects such as probability, dataanalysis, algorithms, and logic questions.

The assessment is 10 multiple choice questions of varying difficulty and you will be given40 minutes to complete it. Below are 3 examples of the types of problem questions in the test.

  • A deck of 52 playing cards contains four suits of 13 cards each.If you randomly draw two cards, what is the probability that both cards are the samesuit?
  • The sum of four different positive integers is 200. The largest of these four integersis N.What is the smallest possible value of N?
  • How many 6-digit binary numbers are there (including those with leading zeros) where0’s do not appear consecutively?

For more sample questions, search online for "Quantinterview practice questions" or "Quant interview prep" to find a variety of resources.

interview tips

Quiet Space You will want to be in a quiet place where you can work uninterrupted for 40 minutes.

Materials Have paper and pens or anything else you might need to work out your answers.

Good Internet Connection Have a reliable internet connection while taking the online assessment.

Search Engines Are Not Helpful The questions and answers have been constructed so that the answers are not easily ‘searchable.’

Step 2
Initial Interview

Your first interview will be a conversation wherewe’ll get to know you better, and review a simple technical question. We’re interested in learning more about your academic background, interests, and anyrelevant experiences you’d like to share. You’ll have a chance to walk us through pastprojects or situations where you had to think critically, solve a problem and driveownership of projects. Don’t worry if your experience is mostly from school. We’re justexcited to hear how you approach challenges and learn more about what motivatesyou.

interview tips

Come Prepared You’ll be asked behavior-based questions – come prepared with examples from schoolprojects, work, or other experiences. Share Your Interests We’d love to hear about your interests and how they align with what we do. Be Curious We encourage you to be curious throughout the interview process. Comeprepared with any questions you have.

Step 3
Technical Problem Solving Interview

If selected after the initial review, you’ll be invited to a second-round interview with a few of our team members. Most interviews will be conducted over Zoom and will last approximately 90minutes. This will be a technical interview, focused more on your skills and knowledge than personalfit. Your interviewer will start with a few questions about your academic and professionalbackground, followed by technical questions assessing your understanding of probability, logic, algorithms, and other relevant topics. Please remember that our interviewer wants you to succeed and that talking with them and explaining your understanding of the problemas you go will give you the best possible chance of success.

interview tips

Prepare These problems are similar in form to the questions from the online assessment but significantly more difficult. We want to be sure you have adequate time so we recommend that you give yourself at least 4 days toreview the subjects at hand.

Show Your Work As you work through the questions, we would like you to "show your work" by talkingthrough your thought process step by step with your interviewer. As you talk through your thought process, we will be able to giveyou feedback on whether you're headed in the right direction.

Step 4
In-Person Interview to Meet the Team

Prior to your in-person interview, you will be given a take-home data analysis project. You will receive a real-world dataset and will be asked to analyze it, draw conclusions, and form recommendations based on your findings. This is an opportunity for you to demonstrate how you approach an open-ended problem, including how you think about the data, what assumptions you make, and how you communicate your results.

The final stage of interviews is in-person at our Vancouver office. You will spend half a day with our quant team members. This stage begins with a five-minute executive presentation of your take-home data analysis project, where you will walk the team through your methodology, findings, and recommendations. The team will then ask follow-up questions about your approach and reasoning. From there, you will have one‑on‑one interviews with each team member. This is for our team members to get to know you better and ask you about your professional and academic experiences and qualifications along with some general knowledge concepts. This is also an opportunity for you to ask us any questions you might have about the company. These interactions will allow you to get a sense of our working culture. Finally, the team will take you out for lunch.

If you are currently not living in Vancouver, we will cover travel and accommodation costs for your interview.

interview tips

Be Yourself This is a chance for you and our team to get to know one another and get a sense of whether we are a good fit for you. Check‑In When you arrive at our office, you will be welcomed by our receptionist and they will notify the team you have arrived. Dress Comfortably Our team members wear Vancouver business casual attire and we recommend you do too.

Step 5
Interview with the Portfolio Manager - Practical Problem Solving

This stage of interviews is conducted by our portfolio manager. This interview will focus on problem-solving involving math and statistical analysis combined with practical applicationto real-world problems.

interview tips

Be Confident You have passed 4 rounds of interviews already so feel confident moving forward.
