Job summary

Aecon Nuclear seeks a qualified Quality Specialist - Mechanical to lead QA/QC documentation and work with the project team on the SMR-X construction with Ontario Power Generation. You will drive inspection planning, supplier coordination, and adherence to nuclear codes and standards.

The role requires a technology or engineering education and at least five years in QA/QC within the nuclear sector, strong communication, and proficiency with MS Office.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a technology program at the college level, preferably engineering.
  • Five years’ QA/QC experience in the Nuclear Industry.
  • Knowledge of nondestructive examination and related inspection techniques.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office (Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with Nuclear Codes & Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain QA/QC documentation.
  • Prepare and revise Construction Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Conduct quality review of RFQ documentation and contracts.
  • Participate in internal and supplier audits, and perform source surveillance.
  • Support QA/QC activities for Fabrication and Construction.
  • Interface with and support strategic suppliers (NDE, Heat Treatment, machining).
  • Conduct quality review of supplier documentation, including Travelers and I&T Plans.
  • Provide quarterly and annual trend analysis data for QA Program.
  • Assist in QA/QC, Codes, Standards related training.
  • Assist in Quality and Construction Engineering activities.

What is the Opportunity?

As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the construction of Canada’s first Small Modular Reactor on the SMR-X Project. Beginning in 2023 Aecon will support the validation phase, design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Specialist-Mechanical will be responsible for preparing and supporting the preparation of QA/QC documentation. In addition, the Quality Specialist shall lead the development of inspection, examination and testing techniques and processes while engaging specialist suppliers.

What You'll Do Here:
  • Establish and maintain QA/QC documentation.

What You Bring to the Team:
  • A graduate of a technology program at the College Level. Preferably a graduate of a recognized university engineering program. Related field: Mechanical Engineering.
  • Five years’ experience in QA/QC related to the Nuclear Industry.
  • General knowledge of nondestructive examination and other inspection techniques related to the construction and fabrication industry.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Computer literate in MS Office, Access, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience and knowledge with Nuclear Codes & Standards.

The expected pay range for this role is $97,500 - $115,000 per year.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
