Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree required in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Commerce, Insurance, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in Commercial Insurance underwriting, quality assurance, risk management, compliance, audit, or governance functions.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Strong understanding of Commercial Insurance underwriting principles, portfolio management, risk controls, and governance frameworks.
  • Experience managing enterprise reporting, audit programs, compliance processes, and operational risk initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in data analysis, reporting tools, and executive-level presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead national underwriting quality review governance across Commercial Insurance portfolios.
  • Oversee underwriting audits and quality reviews to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with established standards.
  • Manage a distributed Quality Review function, partnering with regional Technical Specialist Groups and Corporate Quality Review Analysts.
  • Analyze and report on quality review results, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and present executive reporting, dashboards, and recommendations to senior leadership and governance committees.
  • Lead compliance and risk management activities, including LOR, ORE, FTC, Ethidex, and Risk Control Matrix reporting.
  • Oversee Commercial Insurance Business Continuity Planning, testing, and operational resilience initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, governance standards, and customer fairness obligations.
  • Partner with business leaders to drive continuous improvement, process optimization, training, and system enhancements.

The Quality Review & Compliance Director provides strategic leadership and oversight for underwriting quality, compliance, and risk management across Commercial Insurance portfolios. This role is responsible for ensuring underwriting decisions are reviewed consistently and alignment with underwriting guidelines, service standards, and regulatory requirements. The Director leads the Quality Review function, establishing governance frameworks, reporting standards, and performance oversight to promote underwriting excellence, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement across the organization.

In addition, the Director oversees key compliance and operational risk programs, including regulatory reporting, operational risk management, business continuity planning, and customer fairness requirements. Working closely with business leaders and cross-functional teams, the role drives process improvements, supports training and communication initiatives, and enhances underwriting performance through strong governance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement efforts.

What you Bring:
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Commerce, Insurance, or a related discipline.

Salary Range

$134,300-$184,300

Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labour market.
