Job summary

BlackBerry Inc. is seeking a skilled engineer to design and evolve system-level software for embedded platforms. You will work on compilers, libraries, and developer tooling close to the OS, delivering reliable, secure solutions for automotive, robotics, and industrial markets.

You will collaborate with senior engineers to shape technical strategy, tackle challenging problems, and grow expertise across compiler tech, RTOS, and embedded systems in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience with C and/or C++ in embedded environments.
  • Strong understanding of embedded software concepts and RTOS.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities essential for complex systems.
  • Great collaboration and communication skills for architecture discussions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and enhance system-level software including compilers, command-line utilities, runtime libraries, and developer tooling using in-house tools and GNU/LLVM toolchains.
  • Build innovative solutions for high-performance, reliable, and secure embedded applications.
  • Investigate and solve complex technical problems across the software stack, from low-level components to developer-facing tools.
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers to define product requirements, architecture, and long-term technical strategy.
  • Participate in design and code reviews, contributing to technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Continuously expand expertise in compiler technologies, operating systems, embedded development, and best practices.

What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, and enhance system-level software including compilers, command-line utilities, runtime libraries, and developer tooling. This involves a combination of in-house tools and the GNU or LLVM toolchains.

What You Bring
  • Strong software development experience in C and/or C++.
  • Understanding of embedded software development concepts and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to tackle challenging technical issues.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a passion for technical discussions and architecture design.
  • Curiosity, creativity, and a desire to build technology that other developers rely on every day.
Nice to Have
  • Experience developing, maintaining, or optimizing compilers, toolchains, or language runtimes.
  • Interest in programming language implementation, code generation, optimization, or compiler internals.
  • Experience with Linux and/or Windows-based development environments.
  • Background in systems programming, including operating systems, debuggers, profilers, interpreters, linkers, or performance analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with low-level software, performance optimization, or developer productivity tools.

Compensation

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

Compensation Hiring Base Salary Range: $108,750.00 - $152,250.00. Please be advised that the compensation hiring range indicated herein is provided solely as a good-faith estimate of expected base compensation for the position. The actual compensation offered will be determined at the time of hire and is contingent upon multiple factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, demonstrated skills, and results of assessments conducted during the hiring process.

Bonus

The BlackBerry Variable Incentive Pay (VIP) program is an organization-wide bonus incentive program which aims to reward full-time eligible employees for their contribution to BlackBerry's success. VIP payments are made in addition to base salary and factor in company’s performance as a way for employees to share in BlackBerry's achievements.
