Job description
Summary

This role is responsible for driving safety performance and culture at the shop floor level. Embedded within the Production team, the role ensures that safety protocols are integrated into daily workflows. Reporting directly to the Production Manager, the QHSE / Production lead acts as the primary safety advocate on the shop floor, reviewing all daily posted Pre Job Hazard Assessments (PJHA) for applicability to the work being performed, coaching employes (when required) to best utilize safe work practices and procedures, leading incident investigations and ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Champion a proactive safety culture among frontline employees
  • Review all posted Pre Job Hazard assessment (PJHA) daily and audit for applicability / accuracy to the work activities being performed
  • Collaborate with Production leadership to integrate safety into production planning
  • Support investigations of incidents, ensuring root cause analysis and implementation of effective corrective actions
  • Deliver hands‑on safety training and toolbox talks when requested by Supervisors
  • Complete hazard inspections and assist Production Supervisors / leadhands with implementation of corrective actions
  • Observe and collaborate with employees engaged in rigging and lifting heavy / complex equipment using shop overhead or yard mobile cranes
  • In collaboration with Production Supervisors and HSE, Schedule and facilitate JHA (Job Hazard Assessment) meetings to review applicability of JHA’s with employees from the shopfloor
  • Work with Production Leadhands / Supervisors to identify, control, mitigate shopfloor safety hazards
  • Support safety audit and inspections of production facilities and follow‑up on remedial actions
  • Review existing Production work instructions for applicable content and identify tasks that may not currently have an associated work instruction and could benefit from one
  • Periodically inspect fall protection PPE for condition and satisfactory inventory levels. Work with senior supervisor / Production manager to manage inventory purchases
  • Collaborate with Production manager on safety‑focused equipment purchases or new ideas or approaches to enhance employee safety and wellbeing
  • Support the development and delivery of competency‑based safety training and emergency preparedness programs.
  • Co‑Facilitate HSE committee meetings and support the integration of worker input into safety program planning
Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a journeyman in a welding / fabrication environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years as a member of a safety committee or other safety focus organization.
  • Qualified to train and certify employees in one or more safety focused activity.
  • Knowledge of Federal and OSHA requirements is an asset
  • Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies
  • Strong work ethic - Willing to do what it takes to get the job done
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to freely access all points of a manufacturing site in wide‑ranging climates and environment
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
