Our client, a manufacturer of bakery ingredients, is searching for a QC Supervisor. The QC Supervisor is responsible for leading, coaching, and developing the Quality Control (QC) team while overseeing day‑to‑day analytical testing activities in the QC laboratories.
This role ensures accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with Quality and Food Safety standards. The QC Supervisor provides on‑site support to QC staff and operations, leads hold investigations, manages reblends, develops SOPs, and ensures all QC training materials are maintained within the training library. This position directly supervises all QC Technologists and ensures department coverage during absences.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervises, mentors, and coaches the QC Technologist team; conducts weekly 1:1 meetings.
- Provides performance feedback, training, and development plans for QC staff.
- Leads daily Quality Team Huddles
- Ensures full daily QC staffing coverage; covers QC shifts when required.
- Oversees day‑to‑day operation and activities in the QC Flavour and QC Bakery labs.
- Ensures QC Technologists follow all SOPs, testing protocols, and food safety programs.
- Implement lean methodologies for laboratory management
Analytical Testing & QC Oversight
- Ensures QC team achieves 100% on‑time testing and documentation accuracy.
- Reviews test results, verifies integrity of data, and escalates abnormalities.
- Oversee’s all QC batch testing records and develops appropriate QC parameters for finished products based on statistical analysis of batch testing results.
- Conducts QC testing and product positive release as required.
- Conducts raw material approval testing for potential new raw materials.
- Continuously improves laboratory processes, analytical techniques and analytical testing methodologies and equipment used in the lab.
Hold / Reblend / Opportunity Investigation Ownership
- Leads all opportunity investigations for holds, discrepancies, scanner errors and quality failures.
- Leads, coordinates and approves reblend trials with QC and R&D; ensures reblends are set up in the system.
- Ensures all holds (physical and system) are identified, documented and controlled.
- Maintains ownership of the internal hold area, ensuring accuracy, organization, and cleanliness.
- Provides clear communication regarding investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
SOP, Procedure & Training Program Development
- Develops and maintains QC‑related SOPs, work instructions, and testing protocols.
- Owns QC training material; ensures all modules remain current.
- Ensures QC team training records are up‑to‑date and compliant with food safety and regulatory standards.
Regulatory, Customer, and Systems Support
- Supports Regulatory Affairs with receiving document reviews, COFA checks, and supplier document reviews.
- Maintains strong proficiency in Quality electronic systems: spec database, Business Central, Dynamics CRM, SharePoint, Office 365, Planner.
- Supports company programs including BRCGS, HACCP, GMPs, Allergens, Kosher, Halal, GFCP, and customer‑specific requirements.
Operational & Cross‑Functional Support
- Acts as a Quality lead on the production floor; provides real‑time troubleshooting and decision‑
- Hosts a daily closing meeting with the operations team to ensure the production and quality are aligned.
- Leads and coordinates operational holds and process deviations when quality issues arise – acting as a cross‑functional support for all areas. This involves collaboration with liquid and dry production, logistics, maintenance, scheduling, procurement, regulatory and food safety teams.
- Supports Lean initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
- Stops production when required to prevent major quality or food safety risks.
- Ensures QC labs remain organized, clean, audit‑ready, and “customer‑facing” at all times.
Other Responsibilities
- Completes planner tasks before due dates.
- Ensures all QC activities maintain the safety, authenticity, legality, and quality of products.

DESIRED PROFILE
- College diploma or university degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or Microbiology.
- 3-5 years of related experience in quality control.
- Excellent computer, reporting, and time management skills.
- Proven experience in leading projects or programs.
- Experience in mentoring or training junior staff.
- Positive and professional attitude.
- Ability to work under tight timelines and pressure.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule when required.
