Job summary
Ascendion is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with experience building scalable microservices to enhance our core banking platform. You will work with a cross-functional team to deliver high-impact features and ensure security and reliability.
You should have strong hands-on expertise in Python, Docker, and relational databases, plus a track record of delivering in fast-paced, customer-focused environments.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of software development experience.
- Experience with cloud computing and container-based distributed systems (Docker).
- Relational databases, preferably MySQL, with strong SQL.
- OO language experience (Python preferred).
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservice architecture.
- Hands-on with RabbitMQ.
- RESTful API development.
- Fast-paced, customer-centric environment experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in CS/SE or equivalent.
- Familiar with Unix-like environments.
- Experience with Payroll Providers and Time & Attendance platforms is desirable.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver high quality features and enhancements.
- Own end-to-end delivery of large features spanning 3+ months.
- Create technical design specifications with engineering team.
- Provide estimates and participate in sprint planning.
- Produce highly secure solutions.
- Tune performance of distributed systems to meet SLAs.
- Peer review code.
- Mentor engineers to ship code quickly to customers.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with experience in building highly scalable solutions based on a microservices architecture. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be working with a highly skilled cross functional team to enhance our core banking platform.
Python Developer
- Design and deliver high quality features and enhancements.
- Own the end‑to‑end delivery of large features within your team that could span 3+ months.
- Create technical design specifications in collaboration with other members of the engineering team.
- Provide estimates and actively participate in the sprint planning process.
- Produce highly secure solutions.
- Tune the performance of our distributed system to ensure they operate within our SLAs.
- Peer review other engineers’ code.
- Mentor other engineers to create good technical solutions to problems and ship code quickly to our customers.
- Experience with cloud computing and container-based distributed systems (Docker).
- Experience working with relational databases (preferably MySQL) and high proficiency with SQL.
- Understanding of higher level RDBMS concepts (locking and transaction model, isolation levels, deadlocks, etc.).
- Significant experience with at least one dynamically typed, object-oriented programming language ( preference for Python).
- Great understanding of distributed systems and microservice architecture.
- Hands‑on experience in using message brokers such as RabbitMQ.
- Deep understanding of restful API development.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast pace customer centric environment.

- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Proven experience using code repositories such as GitHub.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
- Familiar with *nix like environments.

The annual salary/hourly rate]for this position is between [$120,000 - 140,000 annually]/[$65-85 per hour]. Factors which may affect pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
The Company offers the following benefits for this position, subject to applicable eligibility requirements: health care and dental care. You are also eligible for the Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) and the Tax‑Free Savings Account (TFSA). Employees entitled to two weeks' vacation must receive 4% of their earnings as vacation pay for the year for which the vacation is taken.
