Job summary

Coastal Health District seeks a qualified Registered Nurse with public health experience to assess health needs, administer vaccines, and coordinate care plans for diverse populations. The role involves providing direct nursing services, health education, and disaster-response support as part of a dedicated team.

You will work with a multidisciplinary staff to deliver population-focused health care, maintain records, and participate in ongoing training and safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in nursing from an accredited program and Georgia RN license with CPR; PHN coursework within one year of hire.
  • One year of nursing experience or equivalence as PHN 1/HCP190 position.
  • BSN is preferred; ASN holders may need BSN-level health assessment coursework.

Responsibilities

  • Assess clients' health care needs comprehensively.
  • Provide treatments, administer medications and vaccines, and preventive care.
  • Coordinate with health care team to plan and evaluate client care.
  • Maintain accurate client records and reports.
  • Adjust treatment plans based on patient responses.
  • Monitor client care, diet, and physical activity.
  • Document symptoms and changes in condition.
  • Prepare patients for exams and procedures.
  • Maintain rooms and supplies; ensure stock levels.
  • Educate clients and families about health and disease prevention.
  • Provide school health services and immunizations.

Assess client health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to Health Department clients. May advise clients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. Nurse will provide Public Health services to clients on a daily basis. Cares for population with special needs during disasters/emergencies and biological and chemical protocols.

All Coastal Health District, County Health Department employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Dispensing site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.
Job Responsibilities
  • Provides comprehensive assessment of client's health care needs
  • Provides treatments, administers medications/vaccines, and preventative/maintenance care to clients and families
  • Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate client care plans
  • Maintains accurate, detailed reports and client records
  • Modifies client treatment plans as indicated by clients responses and conditions
  • Monitors all aspects of client care, including diet and physical activity
  • Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in clients conditions
  • Prepares clients for, and assists with, examinations and treatments
  • Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies, and ensures that stock of supplies is maintained
  • Provides education to clients, families, and community service providers
  • Provides health care, first aid, and immunizations
  • Provides school related health care services.
Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of nursing experience and completion of a PHN course within one year of hire and current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license and CPR certification; or one (1) year of experience at the lowerlevel PH Registered Nurse 1 (HCP190) or position equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

BSN; Previous Public Health experience strongly preferred. Applicants hired for the position with an ASN degree will be required to successfully complete an approved School of Nursing BSN Level Health Assessment Course if they have not previously done so.
