Job summary

A community health organization in Ottawa is seeking a psychologist to provide evidence-based psychological assessments and therapies. Job description

The Community Mental Health Program consists of 10 teams across 5 sites throughout the Ontario Health East Region. CMHP provides a range of models of service (from intensive to outreach) to be a link between hospital services and community agencies for persons with severe and persistent mental illness, and a dual diagnosis living in the community. CMHP uses Recovery-Focused support to increase meaningful community integration in order to live a meaningful engaged life.

Duties
  • Provide evidence-based psychological assessment and treatment (individual and group) to clients across teams in the Community Mental Health Program
  • Provide goal-oriented and time limited therapies
  • Function as an effective member of an inter professional team
  • Liaise and consult with relevant community agencies and service providers
  • Administer and interpret standardized psychological assessment instruments
  • Participate in academic activities including: supervision of pre-doctoral residents in psychology, practicum students, and non-registered psychology staff; supervise psychologists in supervised practice; teach medical interns and residents; and other health related disciplines
  • Participation in hospital psychology and quality improvement requirements, as approved by management
  • Attend Psychology discipline meetings and participate in discipline activities
  • Maintain work load measurement and data collection as required
  • Provide education with various stakeholders
  • Coordinate care among internal and external service providers
  • Write comprehensive discharge reports with follow up recommendations
  • Utilize tele mental health and other distance technologies in the provision of services in outlying communities
  • Build effective collaborative working relationships with stakeholders
  • Demonstrate professional integrity through adherence to college and hospital guidelines for the practice of psychology, including; adherence to the Canadian Code of Ethics for psychologists, adherence to College of Psychologists of Ontario guidelines for registration, professional practice, professional development, supervision, communications and documentation of client contacts, as well as adherence to The Royalu2019s policies on timely completion of documentation and workload measurement.
  • Design program evaluation and satisfaction surveys within program guidelines
  • Carry out research including writing peer-reviewed grant proposals in keeping with the Programu2019s objectives, as approved by management
  • Work in a manner that complies with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal’s Anti-Racism, Harassment & Discrimination Free policy.
  • CMHP will endeavor to support protected dedicated time for scope of practice activities beyond direct clinical care including research, program evaluation (evaluation research), quality improvement, program development, consultation, and/or training, in line with the Psychologist’s interests, and as operationally feasible.
Qualifications
  • Doctorate from a CPA/APA Accredited Clinical Psychology Program
  • Registration or eligible for Registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario is mandatory. Autonomous practice is preferred, supervised practice will be considered. Authorized area of practice in Clinical Psychology mandatory. Authorized client population in Adults is mandatory.
  • CPA/APA accredited internship/residency (or equivalent) in clinical psychology
  • Five years experience post PhD in clinical mental health an asset
  • Program development and program evaluation experience an asset.
  • Experience working with individuals with a Dual Diagnosis is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Inuit culture and experience working with individuals from that culture would be an asset.
  • Primary therapeutic orientation is supported by evidence (eg. CBT, DBT, IPT, EFT, MI etc.).
  • Awareness and experience with behavioral therapy and training.
  • Mandatory clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of: anxiety and mood disorders, substance use disorders using evidence-based approaches
  • Experience working in an interprofessional service delivery model is mandatory
  • Knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation principles and practices
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain good working relations
  • Commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement, Best Practices and Team Work
  • Experience providing clinical services via virtual platforms
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is an asset.
