Job summary

CHEO in Ottawa is seeking a full-time psychologist to join the Mental Health Consultation Liaison service. You will conduct cognitive, behavioral and social-emotional assessments, formulate diagnoses, and provide liaison and intervention within an interdisciplinary team.

You will supervise pre-doctoral psychology interns, support program evaluation and research, and collaborate with hospital staff to improve care for children and youth. Bilingualism (French/English) is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from a CPA/APA accredited program.
• Experience in health psychology.
• Experience with comprehensive psychological assessments for pediatric medical/mental health populations.
• Experience with crisis intervention.
• Registration as a Psychologist in Ontario or eligibility.
• Designated practice as a psychologist in Clinical Psychology with children/adolescents.
• Bilingualism (French/English) preferred.
• Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) required.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive psychological assessments with focus on diagnostic formulation and interplay between health and mental health.
• Offer consultation and treatment services for inpatients and outpatients with medical/surgical conditions.
• Liaise with hospital staff regarding assessment findings and recommendations.

POSITION SUMMARY

A full time psychologist is required to offer services to the CHEO Mental Health Consultation Liaison service. Services to be provided include cognitive, behavioral, and social-emotional assessment, diagnostic formulation, consultation – liaison and intervention. The Psychologist will function as part of an interdisciplinary Consultation-Liaison (CL) health care team.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide comprehensive psychological assessments, with a focus on diagnostic formulation, diagnosis, and delineating the interplay between health and mental health issues
• Consultation and treatment services for both inpatients and outpatients presenting with medical or surgical conditions
• Liaison with other health care professionals within the hospital with regard to assessment findings and recommendations, and their implications for the management of the child/youth
• Liaise with community services, CHEO Intake and Young Minds Partnership at CHEO
• Provide supervision/training of pre-doctoral psychology interns and offer learning opportunities to other student professionals in training
• Assist with program evaluation initiatives and participate, as appropriate, with the development of research projects that reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the clinical services provided by the team
• Collaborate with Psychologists to assist with coverage and backup during vacations and exceptionally busy times
• Other mental health duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from a CPA or APA accredited clinical psychology program (Essential)
• Experience in health psychology (Preferred)
• Experience in the provision of comprehensive psychological assessments (including cognitive, behavioural and personality measures) to a pediatric medical and mental health population (Essential)
• Experience in providing short-term interventions to children with complex medical and mental health conditions (Essential)
• Experience with crisis intervention (Essential)
• Supervision experience (Preferred)Registration as a Psychologist in Ontario or eligibility for registration as a Psychologist (Essential)
• Designated practice as a psychologist in the area of Clinical Psychology with children and adolescents (Essential)
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with other health professionals (Essential)
• Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) (Essential)
• Bilingualism (French/English) (Preferred)
