This Psychologist role is attached to Julie Skaling Physiotherapy Kentville, and is well-suited for an individual who is committed to providing a very high standard of professionalism and care when it comes to mental health and well-being. We are focused on return to work, restoring function, preventing injury, and enhancing performance for our patients.

Our Clinic has a multidisciplinary team which includes physiotherapists, massage therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapy assistants, and administrative staff.

We provide treatment for motor vehicle injuries, work related injuries (WCB), Veterans Affairs (PCVRS), Community Services and Department of National Defense (DND).

Some of our services include acupuncture, cancer rehab, lymphedema, dry needling, concussion management, balance and a wide variety of orthopedic and neurological illnesses and injuries.

You belong here if you value being able to leverage your psychological competencies as a trusted subject‑matter expert to apply evidence‑based and process expertise to meaningful step‑care mental health programs across the mental health continuum (prevention, monitoring and intervention).

You will provide top quality whole‑person care using your client‑centered biopsychosocial approach with both multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams (i.e., physiotherapy, kinesiology, occupational therapy, vocational rehab specialist, case coordinators) and interdisciplinary mental health teams (psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, social workers, occupational therapists).

Your work will make a difference to the lives Canadian Veterans* via PCVRS, whose service‑related health conditions limits their functioning in civilian life, as well as to employees in organizations focused on workplace health, and insured employees and private payers reaching out on their own for support for their mental health concerns.

*Other clients come to us via 3rd party funders such as the Workers Compensation Board, MVA, LTD/STD…

You will find purpose in this role by:
  • Bringing your unique formal assessment competencies to a range of applications, from pre‑employment suitability assessments for high‑risk occupations to diagnostic assessments to guide treatment and psychosocial resource building. This includes administering and scoring the MMPI‑3 and the PAI.
  • Delivering individual treatment for conditions including anxiety, trauma, depression, somatic complaints, substance misuse, adjustment and interpersonal issues within the person’s psychosocial context.
  • Consulting with other mental health service team members and clinical interdisciplinary teams.
  • Leveraging novel approaches to the delivery of mental health services, including adjunct digital therapeutics.
  • Contributing to in‑house training sessions and interdisciplinary case discussions.
Education and licensure
  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Psychology from an accredited university
  • Current registration in good standing with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (competency with adult populations; clinical (asset: counselling psychology, health / rehabilitation psychology, neuropsychology)
  • Individual professional liability insurance required at time of employment
  • Trauma training required
  • Training/certifications with Cognitive Processing Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, EMDR and other evidence‑based treatments highly desired
Applied experience
  • 2 yrs. of clinical experience working with adult populations on return‑to‑work is preferred
  • Conducting psychological assessments with adults for various goals, including treatment planning (MMPI‑3, PAI)
Additional abilities
  • English and French services are offered. Proficiency in French is a strong asset
