Job summary

Fraser Health is implementing a fully remote psychiatry service for adult patients through a Virtual Psychiatry Unit. You will work within an inter-professional team to deliver acute mental health and substance use care across the Fraser Health Region, including outreach to patients at home.

The role supports assessment, outpatient treatment, consultation, and resident education, with occasional in-person attendance for team meetings. You will advocate for patients and ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications

• Qualified psychiatrist or eligible to practice in BC.
• Experience with virtual/telepsychiatry is advantageous.
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary care team.

Responsibilities

• Provide virtual psychiatric care to adult patients in Fraser Health.
• Consult at the Virtual Psychiatry Unit and support outreach to patient residences.
• Participate in discharge planning and education of residents and medical students.
• Attend occasional in-person team meetings as required to support collaboration.
• Advocate for patients and ensure continuity of care across care teams.

Fraser Health is embracing virtual methods to enhance patient care. This position provides entirely virtual clinical services!

The Virtual Psychiatry Unit represents a novel approach to delivering acute Mental Health and Substance Use care to clients across the Fraser Health Region. This innovative program offers the opportunity to work within a team-based, inter-professional care environment. Care is administered to acute patients directly in their homes and through virtual channels.

As a qualified or eligible Psychiatrist, you will be tasked with delivering top-tier care to adult patients served by Fraser Health, as part of an interdisciplinary team. Your responsibilities will include consulting at the new Virtual Psychiatry Unit, actively engaging in outreach to patients' residences.

Although this position provides fully remote clinical care (including virtual on-call) - In person attendance for occasional team meetings may be required.

Services encompass assessment, outpatient treatment and consultation, conducting family meetings, organizing case conferences, discharge planning, and educating psychiatry residents and medical students.

Furthermore, you will play a crucial role in ensuring continuity of care by fostering positive working relationships with all involved in patient care and advocating for the psychiatric needs of individual patients.
