Job summary

Recovery Alberta is seeking a Psychiatric Aide for the Seniors Mental Health Program at Orion House. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team to support personal care, hygiene, nutrition, mobility and safety according to the patient care plan and facility policies.

Responsibilities include observing patient mood, reporting health status, and assisting with activities while maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff. Minimum Grade 12 and active CLHA registration are required.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12.
• A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered.

Job description

The Seniors Mental Health program provides assessment, treatment and rehabilitation programs for individuals, generally over the age of 65 with psychiatric illness such as dementia, and mood and/or thought disorders. The goal of the program is to assist each patient to gain their optimal level of functioning in preparation for community integration. Specialty programming offered in areas of: Mood and Thought Disorder, Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Enrichment and Specialized Dementia. As a Psychiatric Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs as well as assist with organized activities or programs. In this position, you will observe and report on a patients mood, health, well-being, maintain effective communication with patients and health professionals, assist with the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors as well as assist in the general support of the work area.
